I’ve never seen the hammer spur through the leather like that, why did you do it ?
Good catch and question. A couple of seasons ago I walked up to a deer I had shot. Once I confirmed it was dead, I reholstered my gun, snapped (I thought) the retaining strap, and bent over to grab my deer. And that's when my gun fell out of my holster and hit the ground. It was my mistake on not verifying the snap was secure but it made me rethink the design. This hole for the hammer spur is one additional way of securing the gun in the holster. Now, if the snap comes undone that hole catches the gun by the spur before it falls out. It makes for a slightly slower draw but I'm fine with that.
