I posted this before in the past but figured I'd post it again for a reminder.
If you are like me and have folks asking you for Christmas ideas for you, or you are looking for Christmas idea for folks like you that don't cost an arm and a leg that they would ACTUALLY use, here are a couple of BBQ ideas you can give them or use yourself. In addition to your digital thermometer with a remote reader, there is nothing more handy than a good instant read thermometer for checking multiple meat cooks like chicken quarters or checking different areas/edges of a brisket or pork butt while your main probe is in the center. Plus the IR probe makes a great doneness probe at the end of the cook checking for the "hot knife through butter" feel.
Some of the better ones for the money on the market are the:
Thermoworks Thermopop $34 (don't buy on Amazon ... go to the Thermoworks home page for the best price)
Lavatools Javelin PT-12 $27 Instant read thermometer
And for your shredding of pork butts or grabbing of briskets/PBs off the grate while hot these Bear Paws/Claws, or a copy of them, are great tools at a great price. A person that enjoys keeping their finger prints readable and intact will thank you for..
Bear Claws
Dexter Russell 12" Duo Edge Slicer aka "Brisket Knife" with the granton edged or dimpled sides. Great knife at a great price for crosscutting/slicing a brisket.
And of course a little more expensive than the above but still very affordable is the Maverick ET-732. Easy, simple and practical without all the fancy bells and whistle... There are a lot of these on the market now and some work with your phone but I sure like the ease of use and cost of the ET-732. But any of them will serve as a great gift idea. I've had mine going on 6 years....only had to replace one probe for $12
Anyway....just a friendly reminder of some not so obvious items for a stocking stuffer or a gift idea for yourself or a buddy in this crazy hectic holiday season. BTW you might be able to find some better pricing on these items due to sales ..my links are mainly for illustration and the places I bought them when they were the cheapest at the time.....Good luck!
