Default Any Grayson or Cooke county reports??

Just checking to see if there's any favorable hunting reports. Where I hunt it's been real slow.

Trail cams haven't looked good. I'm going to check them again today, not expecting any change.

They are on the acorns. I'm hunting evenings (except one spot I can sneak in through a dry creek) been seeing some deer just not a shooter yet. Pictures went nocturnal last weekend. Saw 7 deer yesterday, 2 bucks.

Not much on cameras either, I sat this morning and saw nothing. Agree with the acorns being a factor.

Back home from pulling cards.

Camera 1 on a feeder had 652 pics last week, 68 this week.

Camera 2 on a feeder had no deer

Camera 3 on a feeder had 2 does one evening

Camera 4 on a perennial scrape had no activity.

I had like 200 photos two weeks ago and six this week. Disappeared from my area, though they have been about 97% nocturnal or more for me

I hunt the north side of Ray Roberts. I had 4 bucks come to feeder right at dark last night. They did a little fighting/playing and ate some protein and corn. They are around at some point every night on camera. Suprised to still see the boys running together.
Didn't see any deer tonight but I think it's because I shot 2 pigs with my bow and got down to go look at them right before my hunt was going to get good. I like killing some

They are on the acorns for sure though. Walk right under me crunching them up. Doubt they would even come to my feeder if they didn't like the protein so much.

They're starting to get more active during the day. From my buddies house that lives on our hunting property we saw two mature bucks about sundown, one we call Droopy and the other we call Animal. I still think it will be at least another week before we start hunting hard.

My pictures dropped off after opening weekend too. Acorns are falling. Coyotes in the area. Neighbors cows crossed over to our place, but have been gathered back up. A couple of the mid range bucks showed back up on cam for the 1st time since opening, Friday last week nocturnal. Backing out for a while until I see movement again. Hopefully the home range does stick around a few more weeks to bring the boys back.

I haven't really had too many reasons to stay away from my hill country lease for the last few years, but it looks like it may be time for that to change. Same seven deer have been showing up at my dad's place for several months. However, we now have a new buck showing up that may just make me take a trip up there to see in person. He has been hitting it hard for the last two weeks every morning. If he is as good as my dad says, he may get two or more weekends of my time.

Had some decent bucks before season. Then tons of hogs started coming in, so many I put hog panels around two of my feeders last month. Deer still haven't come back yet.

All I saw yesterday evening was a doe and two fawns. They walked right over top of my hand corn and ran back into the acorn fest behind my stand. I know I'm in the right spot. Just have to catch those bucks doing the same thing those three deer did in daylight. They are definitely eating a ton of acorns.

Default Abandoning the corn for Acorns

I have decided to slip in one afternoon this week and scout for a tree dropping acorns along the creek on my place back through the cedars where there is a hardwood transition zone and in a funnel area and set up a stand or ground blind. I'm not going to throw any corn but may dump a pile of Big&J on a well used trail. I'm supposed to be smarter than a deer. Ha!. I used to hunt old school and not over a feeder in my younger days. I think I can still be successful. Got to get back in the thick stuff. I think I will limit it to evening only so I can move slow going in so I don't spook anything. It just might work. Time for a change of tactic and scenery. Staring at a corn pile isn't doing it for me lately.

Checked cams yesterday and in two weeks I have 4 doe pics and 1 decent buck before season I had about 6 real nice bucks. I agree acorns are the food of choice once it cools off and the acorns are gone they will be back they know where the food is!

Out of my 4 spots, one has some activity but not much movement yet. Lots of browse from the rain and probably bedded up near the food sources. Full moon last weekend didn't help either. Hoping this cold front pushes them up and around a bit more soon.

Not seeing much activity as far as corn goes. What pics I do get are only a couple at a time. They may stop for a couple bites and move on if they show at all. I get a pic a decent buck about once a week. There's a ton of acorns on the ground and a lot more still on the trees.

Default Good to see

Thanks for sharing. Great young buck! I'm headed back up Sat morning to check cams. I put out some rice bran and Realtree Breeder protein / sweetfeed mix trying something new. Haven't seen if it brought in anything yet. Going to do what I said and set up a stand along the creek in cover to see if I can catch them moving off the feeder. Will drop some big&J and put a cam up. They should be starting to move with the rain and cooler temps. I'll post after I check the cams. Just small bucks and doe/nubbin on last pics.

Defnitely abandon feeders right now. Weve got about 20 acres of ag field the buck arent even using yet. Just does. Last night I was hunting a pinch point. This time of year the bucks are doing a lot traveling around and finding their zones for the rut. Once the tough frost kills off the natural food for the most part I would resume hunting feeders.

I'll be out in Seymour hunting a few bigger, more patternable, bucks. Any of our first timers hunting Grayson county don't get discouraged. We need the cold to move in and force the mature bucks moving during daylight hours.

Well I had 2 new bucks show up according to the cam over the last week. One is a decent 3 yr old 8 pt probably 17" and a little jacked 7pt. Had a doe and 2yr old 8 pt at the feeder at 10:30am this morning. They are starting to move.

Got to go yest and this morning. Had a few slick heads come eat in one of my food plots. This morning had a line of 6 does come through about 830, I was hunting a game trail between bedding areas but no bucks this morning. Saw lots of eyes in the oak trees on my walk down this morning so they're still finishing off the acorns.
