I prefer the 100 proof Bottled in Bond version myself, but both are great values at $15-ish.

Yikes. This is a hard one. They are all great but I would say:

EHTBP > GTS > BSFTB

Havenít had the Taylor but I do have GTS slightly better than SFTB at least for the ones I have anyway. Now if having to buy secondary SFTB all day long for being half the price of GTS. Even the Taylor BP $50 more than SFTB now

Iíve been trying and drinking a little bit of everything here lately but I keep coming back to Jameson black barrel which could be a great thing when you consider the cost vs what Iíve spent on some other bottles lately.

I went to three Total Wine stores in Austin today... since when was Weller Special Reserve special and allocated? I see it all the time in Temple... but Total Wine was acting like it was a hot commodity now. Maybe itís the Austinite crowd starting to pick up bourbon?

but I saw more Bowman Pioneer Single barrel and Forrester 1920 than Iíve seen anywhere else. They had tons of it at each store.

Also scored some bottles of Angels Envy Rye for the backup stock.

I have noticed the last few times I have visited Specs stores in Austin they have been out of the Weller Special reserve. It is my go to. Luckily there is a store close to my house that keeps a good stock of it.

This is finally distributed in Texas and I hear good things about it. Only $20 for a liter, so I picked up a bottle.

Finally scored a Weller Antique 107! Found these two randomly at a store I have never shopped at. He also had a Blantons and an Eagle Rare in stock but I opted out of those.

In an effort to find an affordable daily drinker, I bought this bottle today. It cost $40 and itís actually a pretty good bottle. It doesnít compare to some of the $100+ bottles, but itíll do for the price.

Yep, not often thankfully, but it do happen.
I have 1/2 of Blantons that is getting better with age. Had one I gave away.
But for the most part I've done fine with the single barrels, except for Henry McKenna, never had one of those I liked. Rank it slightly above Copper's Craft.

Funny

Iím under the impression the only place where they truly sell bourbon, Scotch or rye whiskey is America.

We have standards on mixture to be labeled. Whereas Canada for instance doesnít. So Crown Royal, does it taste rye to you or bourbon or scotch ? Bottle says ďwhiskeyĒ. Whatís it made from majority wise ? Nobody knows but Crown. It tastes like bourbon to me more than rye or malt. But Canada doesnít have USA standards of purity in their hooch like we do.

In the USA ?
Whiskey Rye must be 51% rye mash
Bourbon 51% corn mash
Scotch 51% malt mash.

I do not know what a 33.333% mash would be called ? Or a 40/40/20 ?

Just my understanding how America labels our hooch. We know what we are drinking.

The whiskey gods have been smiling down on me the last week. Last weekend we had a staycation and one of the bars we happened upon had George Stagg for $16 a pour. They also had Handy (I think it was the same price).

Then today as I was staring into the expensive whiskey case a worker opened it up and started stocking it with Antique 107. It was $47 so I grabbed one!

For the guys that are in the Houston area - is there a liquor store on the northwest side of town (tomball area) that you frequent that has Weller/Eagle Rare/Blantons with any sort of regularity? I went to two specs and the total wine on 1960 and 249 and struck out.

Ended up walking out with bottles of Glen Levitt 12 first fill and the Glenmorangie 10 year instead -- will continue to search though, just wanting to know if there were any little hidden gems that I might not have found yet

Im in that area but dont see a regular spot.. just pop into a few different stores and talk to them.. ask if they have anything interesting that might not have made it to the shelf and sometimes you'll score something kept in the back
