Default Texas Hunter Caught Poaching Colorado Elk & Deer

https://www.gohunt.com/read/news/tex...g-colorado-elk

TLDR; Texas man caught sneaking on to private properties via bicycle. Poached 5-elk and a deer. Fined 53k and hunting license suspended for 2-years.

2-years probation and $53k seems like really light punishment for poaching 5-elk and a muley to me. Poaching should almost always warrant a lifetime license ban IMO.

$53K seems appropriate but a 2 yr ban isn't enough.

He was poaching when he got caught, do yall really believe that he is magically going to quit because of a 2 year........or lifetime ban for that matter.......its obvious he doesn't care about laws/rules in the first place....

And does anyone believe he will pay the fine?

IMO this is the growing problem. People with no money have nothing to lose being poachers and crooks anymore. Just shrug their shoulders and say they have no money.

2 year ban or a lifetime ban makes no difference to a criminal.

They should take him back in the mountains & put a 22 slug behind his ear. Leave the carcass for the animals. Sorry POS.

Folks are talking about being banned from hunting and they will still hunt.

How about some mandatory jail or prison time? Say about 5 years without a chance of getting out then we'll know they wont be poaching in that time. Might make someone think it's not worth it.

This will never happen but just my thoughts.

Iím sure if he pays 10$ a month the very liberal courts will agree he is paying something.

It is sad to realize how much man power and cost go into investigating these crimes and how little restitution and restrictions are given.

He should have to go stand in town with a sign around his neck letting everyone know he is a poacher everyday during hunting season for 2 years. Ted Poe would agree.

My feeling is, if the fines and bans are posted, and carry enough penalty, it might deter others teetering on the line. If they continue and get caught again, and it's on their record, time for some baloney sammiches and a boyfriend down at the local detention center.

The only issue I have is the term "Hunter" he is not a "Hunter", he is a "Poacher"

And why they calling him a 'Texan" he clearly lives in that community.

He was already "banned" from doing what he did. What's another 2 yrs or 20 yrs going to stop him? I believe he needs some orange jumpsuit time.

The article was incorrect. He received 2 years probation and hunting/fishing privileges have been suspended in 48 states. A future hearing will be held to determine the length of suspension.

I'm sorry but we get all bent out of shape for someone killing animals but child abusers get less and we kill the unborn and don't think twice. Trespassers and poachers should be caught and the punishment should deter them from repeating. Same for the aforementioned.
