    Cedar Table

    need some wisdom on cedar.

I fell and milled boards last weekend. how long to dry? best method to remove bark while maintaining curved edge? best stain to use? boards turned out nice imo, dont want to mess up the rest of the process

Looks like a good start. Where did you get them milled?

stack with blocks in between each board in a covered area. As it dries the bark comes off easy by hand. Depending if you want a protective surface you could use poly. Or if you want to do it up really nice

I like oiled wood. I dont mind dents and scratches in the wood from age. Teak oil, or danish oil has a bit of the poly mixed in it i believe. Boiled linseed oil stinks till it drys but is another option.

For a dining room table i would try the stone coat link.

It takes a little work, but sharpen an axe and use it like a spoke shave on the bark. I've done this to oak before.
I'd use oil, epoxy is okay, but if it chips it's not food safe.
I'd let it dry at least 6 months.

I have had good luck with poly in the past, not sure how cedar takes it. will let dry for 6 months. direct sunlight or shade or no difference?

milled with one of those Alaskan chainsaw bars

pull the bark while they are still fresh...it'll rip right off. If you wait till they dry it's going to be a bear! Dry them stacked in a garage with spacers between them every foot or so, and weight the top with something like cinderblocks, bagged concrete etc. . It'll take a while, maybe 8-12 months?

I stacked mine on wood screeds and put a layer of bug killer under them. Turned them over every couple of months and waited a year.........

I've used cedar, fresh off the mill, without any drying time.
If you're worried, get a moisture meter and check it.

                    All of the above.
Cedar is pretty dry to start.

Worked for me. Just used biscuits and support boards underneath. I used bar epoxy to finish.

Pressure washer will blow the bark off. I've made numerous beds and tables. It works great
