Default Chaparral Youth GDE 12/27 - 12/30

Getting anxious to head south. My son Jacob (15) drew this hunt. Looks like bowhuntercoach will be there with his son also. If weather agrees, we're gonna plan to camp onsite.

It appears we won't know what unit we will have until we get there but it's gonna be good!

I even pulled my old video equipment down out of storage. Some of you probably saw Jacob's hunt at James Daughtrey GDE but man it's been 6 years ago. Time flies!

Been super busy this year with work, church, orchestra, wrestling.... really looking forward to getting away and spending some time.

I noticed the map of units we were sent is different than the others I've seen posted from adult hunts this year.

We received a general info email from Whitney on 12/7/22. It was in one of the attachments with the email.

If you didn't receive email I would call her at 830-676-3413

Well the adults have had their shot. The Chap gonna get a week to cool down then we gonna sick these kiddos on em. And when I say cool down I mean it. Next week gonna have a couple or 3 nights of freezing weather leading in to the start of the hunt. Hoping that really gets em stirring and happy for the incoming corn!

Congrats on that buck!

Best of luck at the Chap! One day I hope one of my girls can draw it for the youth Either sex category! My 10 yr old has 3 points and will have 4 next year. If you don't mind my asking, how many did it take for your boy to draw?

He last drew either sex category his first year so, I think he had 6 points.

A couple of good drainages in the NW corner of E Guajalote... There is a stand on a north/south road in one of the drainages with another drainage running parallel. Good luck to all the kiddos this week.

All bucks I seen in November were running 30yards above drainages.

One buck was brought in last night. Nothing huge, but a great first buck for a young kid. About to roll out and get after them this morning. Nice and chily....hope the kids knock some good ones down. We are just south of OleTomTalker and Jacob in the east side of Guajalote.

I hunted it last year and had a fun time BUT It was definitely not worth the wait(17 or 19 years).. I bought into all of the hype over the years myself.. For that many high fenced acres in that prime part of the country something is bad wrong.. It should be much better. I know it was once "the place" but it is far from that now..
What is actually being killed tells the real story..

Sorry, phone issues so I’m using Jacob’s. Has been really really slow. Wind swapped out of north yesterday and yesterday afternoon picked up a lil with deer movement for those left here. Yes, looking at the board quite a few left yesterday.

Jacob and I hunted a new spot yesterday afternoon, we been corning all week and saw young 8, a button and javelinas.
About hour before dark we climbed down and went back over to watch the tank we been hunting by all week. Stalking in, we saw a buck on corn left from the morning. Closed from 500 yards to 200 and got set up. Big dark horned 10 point. From side had no question about being shooter. Always looked away or broadside. Finally got a quick look from front but chickened out trying tell if at ear tips or not. Pretty positive now was a mistake to pass but at time just couldn’t convince ourselves 100% he was legal.

We did corn that same spot before leaving and right before light we’re bout to stalk in there from downwind n try set up for morning. Pretty sure we gotta leave by noon so it’s now or never!
