    Is This Wasting Game?

I am a longtime member on TBH but an amateur hunter, so bear with my novice question.

If you kill a hog (which is a nuisance animal that is overpopulating a lot of state parks, etc.) on public land and just leave it for the buzzards to eat, is that wasting game?

No, because hogs are not game animals.

No. Can’t shoot them on a state park though, unless it is part of the APH program.

No, it is by definition NOT GAME.

That said... Don't leave it in the parking lot

Also I would split the belly open... They disappear a LOT faster

Nope! I don’t eat pork, and my arrows are too valuable. I started gut shooting everyone to make sure I recover my arrow. I view it like pesticide.

OK, so just to clarify, I saw that there is a North & South Javelina season. TPWD considers javelina different than hogs, right?

Hmmm. Good question OP. I knew the answer on hogs...but now I'm curious. What if you find an elk and shoot it? Not a "game" animal, so no laws prohibit you (at least that I'm aware...) Could you legally just leave it? I mean, no one actually would... but legally, you could?

If hunting an APH property or public hunt, no. You couldn’t even shoot them unless they are listed in the “ legal game” box, or on the draw hunt bag limit. But if it were listed then no you wouldn’t have to keep it since it is listed as an exotic species in Texas.

I've had wardens in multiple counties tell me that I can leave them where they lay (not on road or parking area of course)
