Not sure if you did this, but I had to weld some expanded metal to keep the fire out of the ash pot. It wasn’t getting enough air, and the fire wasn’t high enough. After the expanded metal grate, I got flames coming out of the top, like yours.

So I did put a piece in it but left a small opening to let coals fall so if I wanted to take some out to put on a Dutch oven I could but it let too much ash pile up. I will put it all the way across on the future and will probably have to modify this one to make it work efficiently, gotta love projects, typically takes a couple try’s to get it right
