Default new f150!

went to look at new trucks today ... ford dealer wants $5k over sticker for xlt trim or less , $10k over sticker for lariat or KR , $15k over for platinum.

guess they don't want my money..

drove a red lariat 3.5 eco . didn't even have a bed liner in it ... $75k!

drove a powerboost xlt ... i think they wanted $65k for it ... drove so nice and quiet too... but I can't trust hybrid long term...

the kr they had was 81k on the sticker ... +10k "addendum"

ford dealer ,you can gfys!

That's insane. I bought a new Platinum F150 in December and got $12k off of sticker. Sticker was about $68k. That was bad enough...I can't imagine that people are actually paying sticker or above for a truck no matter what the trim level is.

Sooner people quit financing these trucks for 8 years, the sooner the prices come back to reality. Pretty simple supply and demand, give it a year.

The rise in truck prices are due to the semiconductor shortage. Because there is a shortage, and they wont be putting as many newer model trucks out, dealers are raising the price to accommodate and make up for what they are loosing or trying to at least.

Once the semiconductors start hitting the truck plants, all those trucks sitting in lots and racetracks/rail yards will flood the market. Hopefully fast enough that it brings the prices down. But i suspect it will be a slow release on purpose.

I bought a 2017 Audi S7 for 67k that stickered for 97k in December of 2018 with 6700 miles on it.

Been looking for a similar deal on a BMW X5M competition with low miles and they arenít coming off that price.

yep these truck prices drive me nuts so I don't even look any more.

It's way cheaper for me to spend the occasional $500-$700 to keep my paid for 2010 F150 going and looking good.

I'm with you. They can keep their trucks.

Like someone else posted. Folks need to pass on doing financing over 8 years. The most I'll do is 5, but I prefer to buy it out right.

I got a F150 King Ranch Powerboost for 5K off sticker back in March. I hit the sweet spot between COVID and the semiconductor shortage. Still not a great deal, but better than I'd be getting now.

If you don't buy it, some other sucker will. The dealers know this, so why bother losing profits? Just like leases, houses, ammo, this is the new norm. People keep buying, prices keep going up.

How are you liking the powerboost? I am thinking hard on getting one when supply returns. I have the standard 3.5 eco right now, and love everything but the mileage. What real world mileage are you seeing?

The semi shortage is not going away anytime soon. It's not just trucks that have the shortfall. Semis are in more things than most people think and use everyday. My bet is you will see a little softening towards the end of this year, but this could easily last until the end of 2022. The industry as a whole is roughly 5x behind in capacity due to a number of factors. New fabs cost $1B-$10B to bring online and take years. There is no short term fix. Hopefully I am wrong, but I don't see a lot of near term relief in the market.

It's the new toilet paper shortage. Everyone right now is just trying to "get theirs", and have completely detached from the reality that they probably don't need a new truck right now. Just like they didn't need 500 rolls of TP.

I picked up my wifes new Tahoe last week at James Woods in Decatur. They usually stock 600ish new vehicles on their lot. They had 40 total and 20 of those were service loaders.

I bought a 2021 Silverado 4x4 LT back in April. $48,000 sticker. Paid $41,000. I added on a spray on liner, 60,000 mile extended warranty and electronic (cathodic) rust and corrosion protection. Nothing fancy, but this truck has more technology than I will ever use. I am not implying I got a "good deal". Nobody gets a "good deal" other than the dealers and manufacturers. This dealership in Ottumwa, Iowa set a sales record in March. Over 400 vehicles sold in a town of 35,000.

I think you're spot on. Taiwan Semiconductor (TSMC) makes the majority of semiconductors for the majority of companies like AMD, Apple, Qualcomm, Nvidia, etc... Everything from Cell Phones, Computers, gaming consoles to obviously vehicles, require these chips for their computers. The industry basically put 90% of their eggs into ONE BASKET. With Covid creating a huge demand for at home workers and their at-home schooling, there was a rush on every electronic device using these chips. You can't just "build another manufacturing" facility overnight or within a year or two. I'm afraid this is going to be a issue for several years to come unless they can develop an alternative (not likely).

About all the Ford dealerships have right now is a few F150's and even fewer diesel F250's. You can forget about finding a gas F250, unless you want a Lariat.

I just bought a new jeep. Only 15-20 to choose from on the whole empty lot. Only 4 were Wranglers ....so technically I had 4 to choose from. Big ol empty cement lot.

I went to the Toyota dealership the other day for some break pads for my wife's car. While in there the sales manager came in the waiting room and announced, if you had a car or truck 2018 or newer with fewer than 30k mile; they would give you $5K more that you bought it for.

After a bunch of Fords I bought my first Chevy in September. A big reason was getting the run around at the Ford houses, plus the new body style does it for me. Things were getting crazy, but nowhere near as crazy as the prices are today. I paid $63k + for a Duramax with a sticker right at $74k. It was a demo with 4300 miles on it.

One point above that I would argue, the car manufacturers made a bet and lost. They panicked at the beginning of covid and did two things - gave vehicles away by offering crazy incentives and cut demand. Semi manufacturing sites cannot sit idle and switched production to in demand products. Vehicle demand came back stronger than anyone predicted and now there is a shortage across the board. Take into account the supply chain issues and other factors (Covid related loss of workers/shutdowns, TWN running out of water, Texas ice storm, etc) and demand for other consumer goods not slowing down - all contribute to the gap in supply.

We are looking right now to sell my wife's Lexus Gx460 and get her into the new F150 Lariat.

I will post if we are able to put anything together or not. Her GX is the Luxury package, a 2017 and she just turned over 25,000 miles.

One thing to keep in mind is that used cars are worth a lot more today as well so in the end, everything has gone up, both new and used.

I’m waiting for gas to go to $3.50+ a gallon and for dealerships to start getting more trucks in. Then I’ll trade my 3 year old hybrid in on a one ton truck. I’ll get a premium for the hybrid, and they’ll be discounting the trucks like mad.

I kept my 2013 GMC 1500 with 200k miles for my Daughters' first car when I got my new ride. I got offered $12.5k for it from one of my Dad's friends who has a note lot. It's tough to pass up that kinda cash for a truck with 200k miles.

He said he would have it sold for $14.5 and financed in less than a week.

It's a crazy world out there right now.

Like someone else posted. Folks need to pass on doing financing over 8 years. The most I'll do is 5, but I prefer to buy it out right.
Buying a vehicle outright isn't smart unless the finance rate is more than what you can make in investments. That just isn't the case right now. Some people have a real hard time understanding this. Even the mega wealthy know to finance things because they can put their money to work elsewhere and come out ahead.
