Question Automatic gate openers recommendation

I am thinking about getting a new auto gate opener. I have a Mighty Mule 360 now. It runs on a 12 volt battery that is solar charged. I do not have another power source.

I've had Mighty Mules for 15 years now and this is my 3rd unit. It works but it seems it needs repairs often.

The gate is light and 14 feet long.

What do you all recommend?

Upgrade to the MM-752.
Mine works as good as the Patriot I had at my other place.
Home Depot had it for $750 with extra battery, solar panel and electric lock

Ive been dealing with mighty mule openers for 15 plus years. They were plagued with problems, mainly due to water intrusion, but worked good enough that the price point made it worth it to simply replace occasionally. Mighty mule redesigned the mm series to fix the main problems of the old units. The control box is now completely separate from the opener and is sealed very well. The opener is like 50% faster which has been awesome. The only downside of the mm series is the clicker range, which is like 30ft. Although it opens so fast it is not that big of a deal. Running three now and they have all been solid.

Originally installed Apollo and it was trouble free for years.
Then the board got fried (lightning strike maybe) and NICE had bought them out. Replacement board required stupid sensors and rewiring but I found that a US Automatic had a board almost identical to old Apollo.
It worked a short time and started acting stupid. After months, replacing several parts and a few hours of phone time they finally warrantied the board and trouble free until yesterday, hoping that was just a fluke.

The US Automatics folks were great, even though I told them up front I had "frankensteined" my setup.

Have also heard good things about Ghost

Thanks for the info on Applo. I was trying to remember the name but didn't realize they had been bought out.

I'll look at US Automatic and Ghost.

Another vote for Ghost Controls. I researched gate opener systems for quite awhile before deciding to go with them....been very pleased with mine so far. They have great customer support as well.

I looked at Ghost Controls and they are not priced all that high.

Turns out that my gate problem was a bad battery. It won't hold a charge. New battery and we are all good again.

We have an Apollo 1500 and it has been trouble free for 8 years now. Ours is on a solar panel and I finally had to replace the original battery last year.

US Automatic Patriot for me. I did the 110V with battery backup and it has been great going on 4 years. Use good quality geaseable hinges so your opener's job is easier. The only compliant I have is their manual for installation of the automatic exit sensor is less than great but I figured it out eventually.

That was my problem with my MM 350.? had issues opening and replaced battery and no issues since . Its going on 5-6 years on a fairly light 18' gate... gate is too big BUT wont replace until I have to. I did have some water issues early on as well BUT took apart and small bead of silicone at seam fixed that

Yes, it seems to get a lot of water in there. The entry port for the lines is open and allows water in. Poor design. I broke the seal and put a bead of grease around it because at the time that's all I had. Dern carpenter ants were getting in there, too, but the same grease on the lines going in stopped them from doing that.

The exit sensor was easy for me. The safety beams and correct programming is what I had to get on a tech support call for.

If you mount the safety beams on top of the control box it works easier.

They are inside the box. I was having a voltage drop issue and a dip switch setting issue. Plus me being the electrician controls guy that I am, was determined I could just bypass them. That wasnít happening. They have them set up as fail safe so the gate wonít work if it doesnít see the signal from them.

So I mounted them with the beams facing each other inside the box.

If you put in a gell cell battery the problem will be fixed. My battery on the opener at my old house is still going after 17 years. I put one in for a customer 21 years ago that is still going.

Inside works too! I need to put a keypad up on ours but it works great and the range of the remotes is great as well.

A gel cell, Bob? What is that? Obviously not a regular marine deep cycle.
