    First Buck

Been hunting with my bow on my folks place in East Texas (~120 acres) and have never had had a shot opportunity on a buck...we've seen the property and deer population improve as we started to manage the property...dad took a nice deer 2 seasons ago and I've been trying to put in as much time as I can.

Took off Tues/Wed for my birthday in hopes of getting a few sits in....yesterday around sunset a buck came in chasing 3 does and grunting. I ranged him at 32 yards.

I let an arrow fly and was low and back...it wasn't a good shot...hit the liver and nicked the stomach. He started to walk a bit dazed closer to my stand...laid down and got back up...when he stood, I hit him again in both lungs and he went running.

I recovered him in about 60min thanks to the Lord giving me that 2nd shot. Got him gutted and washed out quickly. No internet service so my father talked me through caping him out as my son wants to get it shoulder mounted. Was a long night, but a great memory.

Sometimes better to be lucky than good. Glad you were able to get a good second shot on him and heck of a deer. Congrats!
