The old rule of thumb was standard primer with extruded powder and magnum primer with ball powder.

      Large Rifle vs LMR primers

Magnum primers also have thicker cups and are less likely to pierce when running stout loads.

Last year I started running Fed 215 LMRP's in both 308 and 6creed with the shortages. I'm sure results mary vary but found SD numbers super low with the creed and lower than the BR2's in the 308 I was using before. Actually picked up a few fps with the 308. Loaded up more 308 the other day using standard large Fed 210's I've found and wondering why now. I see no reason not to go back to using magnums with the amount I have.

I had not heard the suggestion of extruded or stick vs. ball powder with primers but seems accurate with my loading.
