Just checked gunbroker and there are some really nice 686 classics in .357 mag for under 500

Since you handload, without question go for the .45. A good quality .45 LC bullet pushed by a warm/hot load will kill anything in North America.

I have a GP100 .357 that I am happy with. I tote it around at the lease.

          Couple questions:

Why do you want a double action?

Is this revolver going to get carried and shot a lot?

Consider the GP100 in .44 special too. You can load stout rounds in that gun.

I don’t see a disadvantage to a DA, while still allowing a quick follow up shot.

I don’t buy guns to look at, so its gonna get used.

I’m kinda with the S&W crowd.... Unless you’re a really big fella..the Redhawk is just too big and heavy to me.... I keep a 629 44 mag under the seat of my truck.... I also carry a model 66 357 mag on my hip..if I’m at the pasture hunting..also for home defense....

44 mag all the way. Short barrel to carry easier. I recently bought this one.

I was gonna make a suggestion, but after reading some of the other posts, it would turn into a chit show like almost everything else on TBH. Sorry to have quoted you.

Good luck with your purchase, and post a pic of something you kill with your revolver.

You know, Ruger makes a Redhawk 8 shot 357 mag.

Of the options you mentioned, .45LC has the better energy. I like single-action if the gun isn't for defending yourself, but it's a matter of personal preference.

If you decide to buy, I have both that I would sell. A Super Redhawk in .44 mag, not .45 LC and a GP 100 in .357. Both in excellent shape. The .44 mag has a silver Burris handgun scope on it as well.

Came across a good deal on this 45 redhawk. Also came with a box of buffalo bore 260 grain JHP that is running 1400fps out of this gun.
