    Mower engine woes

2014 Kawasaki 21.5hp. Smokes like hell for 10s, quits for 10-20s, smokes like hell for 10s. You can set your watch by it. Just changed oil, filter and plugs. Seems to run fine aside from that. Only thing that is obvious is the vent hose from fuel tank to top of carb is disconnected due to the barb being broken.
    PCV valve maybe?

    Got me stumped

    Valve seal maybe?

I would get that hose fixed, probably getting dust in the fuel tank

Blue/white. It’s oil. Fogs out the whole yard.

I will add that it sat for a year and a half. I’ve mowed about 4 times with it this year and it just started doing this. 210hrs on the motor.

I’d start with that pvc valance first though.
Have you checked your cables and valve spring gaps? Might just need an adjustment.
Did you buy it like that or sudden?

I bought it brand new. My boy hit a t post year before last and dented the deck. I finally got around to rebuilding the deck a couple of months ago and noticed the smoking last week.

That’s wasn’t supposed to say cables. Have you checked your valves?

Are you sure smoke is not from a belt?

I had an idler pulley start to go bad and it would stick, then free, then stick but it was not on a consistent pattern

                  Could be bad rings
The 10sec then not for 20 then repeat has me puzzled

Keep us posted when you find out what is causing it

I hate "intermittent " problems, hard to figure out sometimes

That is an emissions vent, not a crankcase vent.

In order from easist to da!mit:
Check to make sure it is not over full on oil
Check the crankcase vent, probably comes out of a valve cover.
It won't be valve clearance, but could be valve seals
                    Rings could be bad

It is almost like a return for the oil back to pan is stopped up.

My son over filled my JD lawn tractor with oil and it smoked like that but after draining some oil to the proper level it stopped smoking.
