Deer eat all kind of things. Birds, bones, rocks.... Most is for the protein and minerals, others just because by nature they are very curious.

I recall reading a story about deer deliberately eating birds on a small island off of the Scottish coast. There arenít any trees on the island so the birds nest on the ground. The deer visit the nests at night and eat the helpless birds and their offspring. Scientists think itís due to a lack of available calcium in the deerís diet.

Regards,

Dave

Saw a predator study on quail eggs. They put cameras on quail nests to see what was eating the eggs, turns out deer like eggs.
