    Duck parasites?

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not an avid duck hunter. I just go when I’m lucky enough to be invited along. Got a few nice mallards yesterday, but as I’m preparing to put them away in the freezer, I notice what appears to be worm-like parasites embedded in the muscle fibers of the breast. They are easily removed, but I was curious the thoughts of the GS. Anyone have a clue? Is this common? Should I throw this one out? Thanks for any help!

It’s called rice breast and it is a parasite.. You can eat them but I myself would throw it out.. it isn’t real common I have had 2 ducks in the hundreds I have killed over the years

Try em. They’re probably better than the duck.

Rice breast. Technically harmless if cooked all the way. Not uncommon.

Ducks pick that parasite up in stagnant water is what I was told

Worst ones I ever remember were Spoonies

X2 have eaten many birds that had rice breast. Nothing to worry about.

If you pluck your ducks you would never know. I bet plenty people have eaten them and don’t know it.

Just a little extra protein. As stated above, when cooked they are not harmful.

                            Duck parasites?

I’ve killed 100’s of ducks and never seen It but never looked for it.

I haven’t eaten a speckled trout once I found out the worms they have without digging them out. Got tired of digging them out so I just started throwing them back or giving them to someone else.

I ain’t that had up for meat so I’ll just go to the store and buy what I want to eat worm free.

We've seen it just a few times. Heres a shoveler that had it pretty bad. I always let them fly one last time
