Them armadillos are really deer in camo. I talked to a racoon out there that was selling armadillo camo to deer. It's all the rage.

Now that I've read what I wrote I've decided to really quit drinking...for now.

I was hunting LBJ Saturday evening and had one run through the grass at me. I couldn't see it until it got right under me; it gave me a little scare. They make a lot of noise!

New to hunting in DFW - how is this area for hunting with kids? Not able to hunt there this year, but might try next year.

Hunted this evening for a short bit. Took my son w me whos 8. Had 2 hogs come. One at 30 another at 10. Both got a pass. A deer wont be so lucky. Woulda had easy shots on the hogs, but im not tracking a hog at night, shot one last week and have enough hog meat from it

I went last Tuesday. It was pouring down rain and chili. Decided to brace the weather and go. Right off the bat I saw hogs and tried to get within bow range. Wasnít able to. Went ahead and set up my pop up to catch the last hour of daylight. Right before I got set up a doe almost ran me over. Never saw anything behind her. Got set up and within 15 minutes had a doe coming toward me but turned before she got close enough for a shot. So-2 does and some hogs. Not bad for a rainy day of hunting.

We re using a climber and a ghost blind. We could of easily shot the hogs, im not chasing one at night on public i dont have alot of experience on. Ive gotten lost b4 on public chasing a shot hog. Lesson learned. I carry my gps and multiple flash lights.

Oh, I didn't think there was anybody hunting the Vine this year. This thread has been dead...

Please kill a big'n and post pics so we can all live vicariously through you! Good luck! There's some slammers out there for sure!

Been seeing good deer at Grapevine this year. Was successful last Tuesday during the rain storm on a doe. Took me right at 2 hours to get her out of the woods in the dark and pouring rain. Creek levels had gone up some since the rain started and the doe and I got a little wet getting across the creek. Grapevine is so dang thick in areas. Found one mature 9pt core area have some a good photo of him and an awesome encounter Monday where he came in on the wrong side of my tree

Thereís no deer at grapevine.

Well, sort of... either way, for every pic you post, your odds of someone else shooting it and the draw numbers go up just a tad.

Itís public land and anything can happen but it tends to be that the average guy doesnít want to put in the work to actually try to kill a deer out there. Post at your own risk.

Anyone else make the redraw?

You haven't heard??!. TPWD transferred all deer on LBJ to Grapevine this last summer. There are no deer on LBJ but loads on Grapevine.

One day I'll get drawn. One day I'll understand why pics of deer from hard to draw public areas are posted on public forums. Wonder which of those days will happen first?

Yeah, there are second third times that does will go into Estress, but the most rutting activity I saw was the last week of October going into November. Unfortunately only got drawn one time out of 8 years.

There was one dead on 35 yesterday. Right by the river. Looks like the head was missing.

There are nearly 10 trucks at the Bobcat lot this afternoon.

A beautiful day to enjoy the woods. Hope one of us finds what we are looking for.

My son missed a few weeks ago. Cut him some slack. Hes 8. My son had 2 bucks come well within range. They fought head to head under the tree i put my son in. The bucks got done fighting, one broke to my sons left. He let an arrow fly w his xbow. He missed. The deer was snorting and ran straight towards me. I was in a tree 60 yrds from my son. I thought i was gona have to shoot clean up. The deer came towards me, then broke to my right and off he went. My son got the experience of a lifetime, and so did i. I got to watch from my tree. I watched my 8yr old sit by himself, have 2 bucks fight right under him, and my son make his own decision to shoot at a mature deer. My adrenaline ran for days. Thats just a tidbit of what we ve experienced.
