FINALLY DREW ONE! I'm late to the party, I know, but with 2 pts. I drew archery James Daughtrey. I'm super excited after reading a few of those live threads from the years passed. I've combed through many of the threads on tips for hunting the area, but if any of you have any pointers I'm all ears! Fingers are crossed on gun deer and mule deer for this year. I've got 6 pts. on all of those and put in for a ton every year. Of course, it only takes one entry to win so I'm sure my luck was all cashed in on this one

Thanks everyone for the input.
Neither TPWD nor DPS was helpful. When I searched online for DPS "approved" safety courses (pictured above), there was a map with "lots" of training centers. I called all of the places listed in the greater DFW and San Antonio area. None of them offered a course for ATV's. Only for motorcycles. I finally found a place called ATV Safety Institute. They offer a FREE online course. Takes a couple of hours to complete. Then I called RCWMA and was advised that this was sufficient. I also ordered the OHV stickers for 2 ATV's and my 4WD truck. The truck does require that sticker if it is going to be used "off road". The OHV stickers are $16.00 and are good from 9/1/2019 - 9-1/2020.
With that the RCWMA guy said that we should be good.
BTW, the ATV Safety Inst. will push you to take their "hands on" school; but I did not. Don't know what that cost is or where it is offered.

Do you mind posting that link? Looking at going to some of the E-Postcard hunts, whether I draw or go stand-by. These places also allow the use of a ATV. Might as well take it "just in case"!!

I'm not expecting them to draw today since it is a holiday. But I'm not sure how they've done it in the past. So far it doesn't look like they've done any drawings today.

I was thinking the same thing about them not drawing today. I could be wrong though. I hope they do draw today.

Did you put in for any of those if you don't mind me asking?

I put in for both of the private lands hunt categories. A couple applications in each one. I put my son on a couple of the applications with me and my dad in on there with some other ones.

I also put my kiddos in for the youth only gun deer either sex (3 applications each since that's the max).

Why make the deadline on a holiday too then? Isnít the drawing run by the computer system entirely anyways?

They require it to be drawn while employees are present just in case there is an issue that pops up with the drawing. I believe last year they had an issue where on one of the drawing the computer just continued to draw names an essentially showed every entry as drawn. They need people present so these issues can be caught, stopped, and handled quickly.

I applied for a few of the private lands hunts in both categories as well as a few in epostcard archery deer. Just hoping to draw something this year regardless of which one it might be.

My son hunted ABK last year. It is a beautiful property and the hosts are fantastic! We tent camped and really enjoyed it. The UTV rides to/from the stands are an adventure.

Some of the stands are better than others. First morning we hunted a stand on a very small opening. Only about 40 yards across and 60 yards long with no activity. That evening we hunted on the back of the property in a valley between two mountains. Lots of open area and we saw a bunch of turkey, and two doe, but he rushed his shot and missed the deer. The final morning we hunted on top of a ridge, saw a fox, but nothing to shoot.

They talk of seeing some exotics, but no one in our hunt group did. Two other kids killed does.

Best of luck to y'all!

We were there on a TYHP hunt and they took us to and from the blinds. Some of the blinds are fairly remote and the some of the roads are extremely rugged.

They had feeders running for the youth hunters so we didnt have to bring any corn. I think you can bring corn though. I'd do something a little extra to entice the animals to stop by. Vanilla or some scented corn might not be a bad idea.

thats right, now i remember reading this:
This hunt is managed by the Texas Youth Hunt program (TYHP). Winners will need to create an online account with TYHP. Once drawing occurs, TPWD will send the win list to TYHP. TYHP will then contact the winners with further details. If people want more information about TYHP call 1-800-460-5494 or visit www.TYHP.org

i'll need to go create an account wth tyhp, i've heard those folks do a great job with the hunts

Amazingly, I won 4 archery hunts. Big Lake Bottom, Keechi Creek, Laguna Atascosa, and Trinity River NWR Hirsch unit. No way that I'll be going on all 4 hunts so I'll probably let 1 or 2 go to second draw. I haven't decided which ones to accept.
