    Hunted them a lot when I was a kid. Usually don't have them here in good numbers until late December. Challenging to hunt and good to eat.

            I see them occasionally in Mills county.

              They are known as Timberdoodles here in MN. They nest in this area and researchers have done a bunch of studying of them. They use hunting dogs to find the nests and then put tracking units on the young birds. A quick search of the web brings up more details on the operation.

                    We hunted them once in a while when we were young, One of if not the fastest birds I've ever hunted. They flush right in front of you and man they are scooting in no time.
