Doe/spike hunt also in December. It'll be about my 15th year to hunt there.
I do have my favorite spots.

Haven't drawn since 2014 but drew 3 years in a row leading up to that. New draw system screwed things up.

Don't know about now but when I've gone the deer density has always been way less than richland creek. The bordering properties like to hunt hunt hunt and like 24/7 365

Per the Area Biologist's Deer Survey , 1 deer per 20 acres. I have been there before and seen 20 plus deer. And I have been there and seen 3 deer. Always brought one home though!

Your lucky then, the # of deer brount in per # of hunters in for a multi day hunt usually runs 3 deer for every 20 hunters sometimes less.

I guess I am lucky. I am 8 for 8 on the Gus. Four Bucks, four does. Hope to keep it up this year.

I was drawn for the archery hunt 11/17 to 11/21 but I'm not gonna be able to hunt it. My father has taken a turn for the worse and I'll be with him. I'll be calling the WMA to tell them I won't be there so hopefully there will be at least 1 standby position.

Good luck guys!

I’ve got some almost legal guys chasing in 8. But there was coyotes all over the unit last night so I’m not holding my breath. Gonna stick a doe if another comes in range. I have one buck all over my spot but he legally needs another year. Any other hunt he would be shot by now.

Is there rule 15" inside spread or 13"? Richland used to be 15" going way back over 10 years ago, still might be

The rule at Gus is a firm “outside the ears.” They made it clear during orientation that a big bodied mature buck will be roughly 15” inside, and that’s what they want killed. Not 13-14” 3.5 year olds.

Interesting, if figured they might have defaulted to the state regs now. I bet both places have had that 15" rule for 20 years now, guess they were kind of the test tube for antler restrictions.

Talked to dad last night, they have seen a few.

He said he thought they were searching for what was supposed to be a pretty good buck in one of the units close to him when they checked out for the evening.
