I was going to Granger this weekend but have decided to head here for scouting and saddle practice. Since we moved to Bastrop it's only an hour drive.

Best to keep it on the hush a Facebook group for Somerville would ruin it and I hope nobody ever makes one. I watched what it did to the Sam and there is way more hunters and every one is a member.

Not getting many day pics here either.

Went out Monday and ran into swirling winds so I'm thinking pop up as well.

Hunted Saturday morning, saw some doe out of range. Decided to go watch football and got pics of deer walking by my blind that evening. Thats how it goes I guess. Talked to the GW on my way out and he hadn't heard of any luck that morning.

that looks like my X5 arrow, I thought I was the only cheapie who shot those.
What broad tip?
I had a missed buc opportunity, still wimping from the experience and may share when done crying.

For those of you with tree climbers, does anyone lock their tree climbers? Or does everyone carry? Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Nice morning no deer yet but I had a very big bobcat at 20 yards my first I’ve seen while hunting at first I thought it was a young deer or a coyote. Grabbed my bow and it got spooky I could of drawn on him but I let him scamper off. Hopefully a deer walks through but that was absolutely awesome

Just an FYI, bobcats and coyotes are not fur bearers and you may not take them at Somerville.

We go out in February for the sand bass run and occasionally jump a doe or two but we're 2/2 on finding buck deadheads out there and plenty of hog skulls... so if anything they're going there to die lol

watch for maroon chevy truck, new model. I picked an off beat path to avoid others, showed up one afternoon to hunt and the truck was there. Left it alone to let him hunt, go back the next morning and someone snapped my ground blind rods. don't know for certain he did it but with as few that go there, the odds are high. glad I had pulled my camera, whoever would have snatched it with that attitude. happened a week ago

Finally went out Saturday morning for the first time this year. I planned to hunt a tree I used a few years ago and hoped it would be unoccupied and still ready to hunt. I got kind of turned around since I hadn’t been out there since 2018 season. While walking through the dark I hear something jump up in the brush to my left and swing my flashlight that direction just in time to see a young deer lunge face first into a tree. It fell like a sack of potatoes. I figured it just knocked itself out so I waited a few minutes watching it lay there and it never moved again. Little dude hit the tree so hard he broke his neck. I came home with some meat but not exactly how I planned.

Small like a nubbin. He barely had two little bumps on his head. I wouldn’t have taken a shot at him if I had the chance but I also wasn’t just going to leave it there to go to waste.

I’ve never seen anything like that happen. It was crazy and I was so ready to have some sit time in the tree since I didn’t go at all last year.
