Just got back from the lease. The fire may have actually done us some good. We faired well as far as damage. Lost a camera, repaired a feeder, and the land owner only lost a fence. A lot of under brush cleaned out. The rain has already sprouted fresh green vegetation. All the feeders topped off and cameras put out. So we are hoping to see some good pics next trip. We had 2 cameras out already and they had decent activity with about a dozen deer and some javelina at each one. How is everyone else doing? Looking forward to a positive season!

Thats great to hear, we will be back first weekend of September. Looking to do a good survey. This is the time of year anthrax rears its ugly head so hopefully it doesn't come back this year.

Just got back, not a single acorn on any tree, so I am very excited for the season. We are just 2 miles south of town and we missed the anthrax and have lots of good bucks on camera

Shot this buck this afternoon! Watched him all morning but he wouldn’t give me a shot, that wind had the deer on edge. He showed back up for dinner and gave me a chance. They sure are fat this year.

Congrats! Hunting was tough at our place this weekend. between everything being so green and a bunch of wind they were reluctant to leave the cover of the brush. Buddy of mine was lucky enough to take a Black Buck doe.

Tough hunts this weekend in Sonora.

Had a good shot on a Doe, hit a branch and my arrow was gone.

What do you guys notice as far as activity with filling feeders and protein ? How does it effect their behavior or movement the next hunt, evening or morning following filling?

Did you guys notice how bright that Dagum moon was?!?! Didn't even use a headlamp this morning heading to the set.

We're just south of Sonora on 189 and the hogs are thick. The landowner typically
shoots them out of a helicopter after season to keep their numbers down.

Interested in hearing about anthrax impact to actual deer #s now that people are in the woods actually watching feeders. Are you seeing young deer only? Mature deer #s down?

We were hit by anthrax last year, haven't been out for season yet but when we went mid September to fill feeders we saw lots of deer. I don't expect a great season this year but definitely better than last year. We had many sits in the stand last year and never saw a deer which is completely unusual for the area.

Around this time last year we had 8 deer total using game cameras and a helicopter survey.
This year we know for sure we have around 65 deer using just our game cameras. That's only 12 cameras on 6K acres so we fell like our numbers could be a little higher. It's bouncing back better than expected.

We are about a two miles north of the town of Sonora. Our herd was not affected by anthrax but we had some neighbors who did some damage on some whitetails and were asked to vacate their lease.

We were at the lease this weekend but didn't see as much activity as I would have thought.

What’s the Axis activity like In the fall, I’ll be hunting Thanksgiving this year. Not super concerned about it but didn’t know if y’all knew.

We seem to always have them on camera and then poof like magic they are gone

Axis are unpredictable on our place, there one day and gone the next. I don't think we have the graze they need so its likely they are just passing through.

I hunt about 20 miles east of Sonora, anyone seeing signs of rut? Just returned from a week there, we saw lots of deer, more decent bucks than previous years. Super dry and deer are on hand corn almost as soon as you throw it out. Most bucks were still in groups, only saw one buck that was chasing. Going back right after TG and am staying til a couple days before xmas.

Same here. Got in Thursday night, hunted all day today. From what I saw today and looking at the cameras I have out, the bucks are all still grouped up. I did not notice anything chasing. Numbers are still not like they were but I will say todays card checks of the cameras made me more excited than I have been in a while. Lots of improvement in numbers and different groups as well all over the ranch! Anyone else out this weekend?
