Nilgai with a 7mm-08?

Yessir.
Not the gun I would have taken on a nilgai hunt, but got the job done. We weren’t hunting nilgai but decided to take this mature bull when we saw him. Piled up inside of 40 yards. 162 gr. ELD-X no less.

You can see the entrance in the pic. Nilgai money spot— tight tight to the shoulder. Double lung just above the heart.

Congrats on the nice Nilgai!

No doubt Nilgai are tough animals, but it gets me that some people think or some locations require a bazooka to hunt them. I've shot numerous Nilgai with a .270 using 130 grain bullets. We've killed them with 6mm using 100 grain bullets. I've seen some shot with the big .300 magnums that have ran a ways, but that usually was from poor shot placement.

I’ve killed a few of them with a 223. They’re not made of metal. You put one in the vitals it’s going to die pretty quick.
