My best advice is to get a knee scooter you will be out of commission for a while and crutches suck.

I kept working with it and it was feeling better. two weeks later I lost my footing and put all my weight on the leg and snap it was gone. With a partial tear the surgery is not as bad. They can re-attach the portions of the tendon that have pulled loose. With a full tear as I ended up with, they cut you from the heal to mid calf. There is not enough tendon to re-attach so they us cadaver tendon make up the difference. Needless to say it's never the same, even with lots of physical therapy. I wish you the best. IM me with your cell number. I can tell you all I know.
Seems like it’s always a sprain at the ER. I have two torn ligaments, two tendons, and an avulsion fracture in my ankle. And a couple strains / sprains? All diagnosed as a sprain at the local minor ER. Two weeks and return to duty. . That was Dec 11. Still have another 4-6 of recovery to go. Take these guys advice and get things squared away. Monetarily it is hurting me now, but I got to think about the long run. You got to do the same. Good luck. Prayers up.

I work in these daily. Saw one on Tuesday actually

Need to get an MRI to evaluate the damage
But only get an MRI of your planning on surgically correcting it. If you think surgery is. It an option then need to be in a cast for 8 weeks and let the scar tissue heal in and hope it's functional. If it has a complete rupture then surgery is needed

If it is a partial tear then you have options. Cast and allow it to scar- down side is that you will have a week area in the tendon, but sometimes it holds up. I have 2 guys I can think about and this was the case and they play basketball today. 2 others that eventually popped.
If full rupture is not corrected then the tendon will retract. And if it heals non functional, then down the line you have to have a calcaneal Achilles' tendon graft implanted to correct the deformity

If it feels like a knot then it's a partial tear
If it feels like a rupture it is a complete rupture

Odd thing is that Tuesday the lady was from Kaufman

Either tear will feel like you got hit behind the heel and you wouldn't be able to use it right now

If you want to come in today I'll get you in and take a look at it
                I'm in mesquite

Unless you lacerate the sleeve your achilles tendon travels through it is not necessary. Most doctors you call will tell you to get surgery but call around until you find one who will do a non surgical treatment.

The non-surgical route will put you in a cast with a wedge built into it that will force your toe to stay pointed causing your achilles to relax and push the ruptured ends back together. Over time they will reconnect and you will be fine. You will also be walking out of the office that day on the cast with the wedge vs a week+ being down with the surgery.

Here is a paper to read LINK

I can't find the full paper but here is the study by my doctor and several others. LINK

It took me 6 month to recover but after that no issues and no surgical scars. I would call sports medicine hospitals near Dallas until you find a doctor that does the non-surgical route. My doctor recently retired and was down here in Houston.

If you have more questions feel free to ask. Its sad our medical system jumps to surgery for issues that can be healed otherwise.
                    Wouldn't quite agree with this
There is. I way to push the ends of a ruptured tendon back together, a complete rupture wheels in with scar tissue not tendon. Tendon won't regenerate.

To walk out after a rupture in a cast or boot, is taking a huge risk of further retraction. In a complete rupture,No way to completely immobilize the gastrocnemius muscle from firing. It crosses the knee so every time you bend you knee the achiles tendon complex fires. Which will lead to retraction. There's no way to know if the paratenon is torn. It is the sheath that the chilled tondon is wrapped with. It is the bills sourc to heal the area, but it won't make the tendon grow back together, it will just close the gap with scar tussue

With partial tears we just lay a graft tissue on it to heals the speed of healing and sutures in a fashion that reinforces the tendon across the tear. Partial tears have a lot better chance of healing functional nonsurgically then ruptures. Due to no insurwnce if it's a partial then I wouldn't recommend surgery

You should take Warrington up on his offer. This is not a injury to play around with.

Thanks for the offer. Saw a specialist yesterday. Its completely ruptured. Just waiting for them to call and schedule surgery.
