I have always been a fan of Maples.

            Don’t plant a Chinese Tallow... I don’t think it’s even legal...

x5 on Monterrey oaks (a.k.a. Mexican white oak). almost evergreen, disease resistant, fast-growing. Little maintenance compared to live oaks and water oaks which don't self prune.

Fastest growing tree I have seen is the Chinese Parasol Tree. Has giant leaves and provides a lot of shade.

This! Monterrey Oaks are a morphing oak so get one that has been grown next to Live Oaks and it will cross pollenate with them and take on the evergreen and smaller leaf characteristics. If they are grown by a Burr oak they will have Large leafs and Large acorns. One of my favorite oaks for sure. They grow fast and are hardy trees.

You want to plant trees in the fall, so roots can establish before they have to bear the texas summers.
