The noise I made trying to get that outboard fired off at dawn probably made nessie surface to take a peak and see what the hay was going on.

I like the low oil cutoff switch theory....

But wouldn't that keep the spark from sparking?

Put some gas on the air filter to the carb and try it again.

Try a splash of starting fluid. I had a similar problem with mine and that got it to start. I have to use it for any cold start. After the first time it will start with no problem. I know it will eventually not work, but so far so good.
