    Turkey success

My best friend invited me to his ranch near Beeville. I decided to try and call a Tom in. I knew the basic area they were roosting in, so I got set up well before daylight and waited.

Around 6:45, I heard the first gobble from the roost. They were close!

I resisted the urge to call until around 7:00. At 7:10, a jake flew down and went straight for the decoy. As soon as he got to the decoy, 8 gobblers went crazy and came in, chased the jake off, and started strutting.

I shot the biggest one as soon as I had the shot.

    What a rush.

I have killed plenty of turkeys in my life, but never really messed with spring hunting. Mainly because i did not like eating them. I have tried several ways to cook them, but they always came out dry and tough.

I bought a sous vide stick and have been playing with it some. I breasted the turkey and individually vacuumed sealed each one. One had salt, pepper, olive oil. The other had some other seasonings that my wife put on it. Cooked for 12 hours at 138 degrees.

I was shocked at how good it was. Pretty close to store bought turkey.
