I used to have the previous model of that tent. Had it for years and used it all over the place. Was a great tent, the zippers finally went out and were beyond repair.

Alright folks, back in the saddle. Decided to sit in the same blind as yesterday. It was too enjoyable of a hunt not to. I think 4 or 5 bucks were brought in yesterday. One "7" with a very freshly busted G3...

Looking for another good management buck this morning. If a doe presents a shot late in the morning, I might finger a round off. Let's see what this south TX brush produces this morning!

6 and a young 7 stepped out. 6 is too narrow. 7 technically meets management criteria, but hes 2.5 and trying hard to be a 9 pt. I'm not that hungry.

But this plump doe in front of me is convincing! Little too early for her though.

Contemplating my afternoon move. Tempted to change it up and try another area. Then again, I've had corn out here and had pretty decent hunts so far. Going to scout a few places and see if anything jumps out.

Unless your hunting fence lines you’re probably not going to benefit a ton by moving. Likely seeing the same animals. But new scenery is fun, too.

Probably right. Going to abandon my post for a few hours. Scout a couple areas and rattle, then head to camp for a quick bite. Back the field around 1.

I saw several buck fights last weekend at my ranch in LaSalle County. They are shifting territories not fighting over does. It certainly won’t hurt to give it a try.

No problem, glad you asked. The 5 pt, even though he only 90 lbs dressed, had a big blocky head typical of these mature stx bucks. The 6 pt was definitely young. Slick in appearance and long legs gave it away at first glance. Plus, the 5 was a little wider, giving me confidence he was over 14".

Quick update. I got out of the stand and walked my pasture. Had a brute body of a buck step out in the road. I plopped down and folded my bipod out. As I studied him though the scope, he finally turned his head and I could tell he was an 18"-19" slick 7. Bascially your dream management buck here. I clicked the safety off at the exact moment he slipped in the brush. Could have had him, but had to make sure he met criteria. Buck is going to haunt me tonight!

I debated setting up near where the buck was, but seeing as its upper 80s here, I honest didn't feel like making a brush blind and cooking in this heat. Back in my original blind. Let's see what the afternoon brings!

Surprisingly none! One javi hanging in the cooler, that's in. Learned the warthogs have been spotted several time in my pasture. That would be a pretty cool trophy to take from here!

Several of the management bucks brought in were 6.5 or older. It sounded like they had a good aerial survey. Everyone is seeing a mature buck or two it seems.

Summer has been dry but decent rain last winter and early spring. Forage held up pretty well during antler growing season. The big thing down there is major drought. From 2011-2013, bad drought and VERY low fawn recruitment. Low number of bucks born. Hunted there in 2018 and the 5.5 to 7.5 age class was way low. This year, that age range should have very good numbers. Meaning more mature bucks..... theoretically.....

Looks like a wrap. That one doe stayed just out of my comfort range. Thinking I might try the spot I found today in the morning. Might be an uncomfortable sit on the ground, but feeling a little burnt out here after today. Few pics from that area. Water trough 50 yards to my left
