Lady luck was on my side, as I made the 3 hour drive down for a few stand-by positions for their gun management hunt. First time ever trying for a stand-by spot. Beginners luck I suppose. Pretty excited to be hunting the Chap for a second time, the other being an archery hunt several years ago.

I drew the NW section of the Long pasture. Based on a quick tour of the section, I'm limited to two roads dividing the pasture, then my 4 perimeter roads. There is a handicap blind in my section, and as I stopped to take a quick look around it, the sign was attention grabbing! Two fresh scrapes, a rub, and fresh droppings. Goes against everything I had in mind for this hunt, but I decided to give it a shot. I corned the road both ways, trimmed some shooting lanes, and corned every little pocket I could see. It's a start, and I'll decide what to do after this.

Already got a nubber hanging out eating the corn. I have till Wednesday at dark to hunt. We're allowed two management bucks amd and a doe, or visa versa. Take a seat beside me here, and lets see what happens!

Love this place. I would have tried for a standby here but drew a 2nd chance management at the Daughtry next week.

Whew, thought I was fixing to send one down range. My 3 point happened to have a small brow, making him a 4. No go. Two deer by 3:20 is a good start.

One problem I'm having is my chair. I was anticipating sitting in a brush blind on a road, so I have a low sitting chair. Now that I'm in a blind, I can barely see out of the windows lol. Not sure if I'm going to sit on my leg in the chair, or shoot off a knee. We'll see if that time comes.

Takes pillow and put in your seat or bring a camp chair. I always bring good chairs when we went to Chap.

Was getting in position to pop a doe. Second guessed myself making sure she wasn't the younger doe with the yearling from earlier. She scooted out before I confirmed.

Seen what looked to be a shooter management! Popped out at 250 and went the wrong direction. About 17" inside

Good luck man. When I was there last a 25 inch wide 6 was shot with 25 inch beams. An impressive deer.

Whoa!! Things got busy in a hurry. A beautiful mature 10 came in and put on a show. Upper 130s. Then the management buck popped back out and made his way 50 yards. I popped him in the chest with the 243. He was hurt when he ran off
