Did a little scouting today. Anybody recognize this buck? Shot during segment A I’m guessing.
I saw a very similar buck in big mineral in seg a. Couldn't make out if the one side was unbranched or (most likely) broken off so I didn't fling an arrow.
Ive seen the term "saddle Hunting" used several time in the Seg A and this thread. can someone please tell me what that means? Using a bike maybe?
Form of hunting where you hoist your bike anywhere from 15-20 feet up and anchor it securely in a tree, then you swap out your seat with a larger more comfortable “saddle”. Really minimizes your weight that you have to drag in and is much more mobile than a climber. It usually takes 2 people to hoist the bike up and can be a challenge with some bikes due to their weight. Was a big deal back in the 70s and just now starting to take off again.
Just kidden’
I had to use Mr Google when I saw that term as well! New one to me.
Anyways, good luck Seg B folks! Don’t forget your gloves, small battery pack for your phone so you can keep us updated, and tire patches and an air pump for your bike if you hit any of those nasty thorns.
I started saddle hunting this season for the first time. If ever drawn for the Hag again, I’m convinced it’s the most efficient method for this type of hunt. I hunt primarily public land and have learned some sits call for a tree stand and others call for a quick and dirty saddle setup over some hot sign. The freedom in the tree to position for a shot seems endless and the added benefit of using the tree to conceal your body and movement helps too.
I went with a Tethered tree saddle and squirrel steps (ring of steps). But there are others on the market worth looking at. All provide a different level of comfort and adjustability. After a few weekends of use I will be adding a platform to stand on for longer hunts opposed to just squirrel steps. The JX3 Hybrid in my opinion, would be a great long-sit saddle because of the built-in preacher seat. Add in a set of lightweight climbings sticks and you’re ready to move just about anywhere and fast. I typically ascend the tree once and don’t have to come back down after reaching my hunting height. Hope this helps those curious about saddle hunting! Nothing new, just gaining popularity again.
