Default Searching for Trophy Mule Deer Hunt 2020

I’ve searched prior posts and done some research on prior recommendations. Here’s what I’m looking for: legitimate opportunity to find my father a bucket list trophy mule deer (30”+ or 190”+). Looking only for guided properties in US or Canada. Must be guided due to the limited time we have to spend pre-season scouting. Looking for 2020 (yes, I know I’m late to the table on this!)

Free range, low fence preferred.

We’re comfortable with the budget this type of hunt requires. The only recommended place I’ve seen that fits this criteria so far is the Jicarilla Apache, but given the potential for not drawing a tag or not being one of the top 2 qualifying bids, also looking for other options in Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, Alberta, or other states or provinces.

I know a guy that told me about some giant mule deer up in Oregon, I am sure 2020 would be out but 21 could be a possibility, it is a private ranch and they kill some toads, I think the cost is 12K or maybe more, I will try and get more info on it.

Graham Brigden in SE Alberta. No tags to draw. Most of his clients are repeat customers b/c he's got great quality bucks. Little to no fencing in his part of the world. We went in 2014. Brought home a mid 160's and a mid 180's....both with bow. PM me if you have more questions.

This might be Highland Hills Ranch. I've bird hunted at HHR and there were monster mullies everywhere. Everything is top shelf at HHR, which is reflected in the cost.

Here's their website: https://www.highlandhillsranch.com/

Eastern plains of Colorado has some monsters, other than that you will probably have to go to Canada.

You'll need some PP for eastern plains I believe unless you can find some vouchers.
Big mulies can be found in lots of states and areas but they will bring big $$$. Get ready to pay.
Canada would be my recc. as well without PP.
Don't overlook some sleeper states and areas. We had a friend come up to hunt the ranch we work on, 1 PP area if any to draw, and he took and 190+ non typical.
You might find a private land hunt in Wyoming in a low PP area that fits your bill.

Check out the Nevada Guides Draw, several really good outfitters (Silver State Guides and Outfitters, Deep Creek Outfitters) out there that knock down some giants and the odds are much better than the regular draw even with low points.

Take a look at Tri-State Outfitters, Bridger Petrini.

He has great options in New Mexico and Eastern Colorado. You won't be disappointed.

Little late to be planning for this fall. Most hunts of that quality will require building points in a draw or getting in a very high quality outfitters schedule for an upcoming year. As said above most great outfitters have repeat clients. But all that aside, good luck! And let us know if you go.

I did a hunt 2 years ago through bow hunting safari consultants in Alberta. I missed two deer with my bow. First one was about a 170 class, shot over him at 60 yards. Second was 190 class easy, with a drop tone still in velvet. Hit him high at 35 yards. Chased him for a while, was seen a few weeks later.

Jay Osting at BSC set up the hunt I highly recommend. It was a great hunt, we hunted all day long finding animals and picking which ones were worth stalking. I had a 3 stalk attempts on that big one. When I finally got the shot it was a gift, I just plain missed. Would love to go back someday.

My friend who recommended it has killed 3 170+ deer with his bow.

I know a guy who hunted with them on the trophy & management hunt package and he didn't see a single deer on the entire trip.....but they charged him the full amount. Also a guy shot a muley that was scored by a few guys in the low 190's but they scored him at camp at 201" and charged him several thousand more because he "broke 200"

Highly recommend Currant Creek Outfitters in Nevada. Riley kills some absolute monsters and he knows where to find them. The hunt can require putting the miles on the boots but if you are able to chase them, you can kill a great buck. Outfitters can provide assistance in getting tags in Nevada so that is not a problem.

I would say your best bet is either Private land in Colorado, private/ landowner Nevada, or the Jicarilla.. Close behind would be Sonora, and Alberta but I would say your chasing 180" Deer there..

I can promise there are some private land places that have some big deer or upcoming deer pegged and know about them. I would join Epic outdoors and Call and talk to Jason Carter.. He can tell you where your best chance of a 200" deer is to hunt I would be willing to bet..
