Finally got it done!!haha Coaching basketball and knife orders have kept me from hunting as much as I'd like, but I was able to get out this evening! I passed on this buck several days ago (only been hunting 3 times this year) cause it was early and thought I might see something better...never did, and he wandered off too far for me to get a good shot and I was kicking myself the past couple days for not shooting him. Well, he came back again tonight and was running off all the other bucks on the wheat field...he came jogging in to bout 80 yards and I was afraid he wasnt gonna stop so i grunted at him and sure enough he stopped long enough for me to hit him w my grandpa's old 30-06 quartering to me. He ran bout 30 yards into the mesquites and piled up there. Found him and looked for an exit wound but there wasnt one...thought i may have just scared him to death!haha Got him loaded up and took him to my buddy that processes for us. Found the bullet entrance right at the front of the shoulder where I was aiming and found the bullet in his cavity when we cleaned him out. (never known a 30-06 to not exit the other side!?) He was an old buck, thinking 5 years old, 11pt, not a really pretty rack or anything but this sucker was BIG!! He had half his nose ripped off and an eye was gouged out. He'd definitely been doing some fighting in his lifetime! Now mama is happy we'll have some deer meat in the freezer![emoji16][emoji106]
