Default How to Upload/Post Photos

Probably the biggest learning curve that I anticipate on the new forum is uploading a photo and having it show within the text of your message as a photo instead of a link to a photo. It's actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Here's my attempt at explaining it...

How to Upload Photos:
 1. Upload your photo(s) before you post your message. Simply click on the paper clip icon in the message box, browse to the file and select upload.
 2. Then, type in your message. When you get to the place in your message where you want to add a photo, click the dropdown next to the paperclip (after your photos have been uploaded). You'll see a list of the photos that you just uploaded. Click on the one you want to insert here.
 3. Continue typing your message, and each place where you want to add a photo, repeat the step above. It should insert the proper code, and your photo will show as a photo instead of a link.

How to post YouTube Videos

Because of the lack of policing and ever present offensive comments posted with YouTube videos on their website, we have always asked members not to post links to there as we want to maintain the family environment here on TBH.

However, we now have a YouTube embedment function available to be able to embed YouTube videos into your posts.

To utilize this feature do the following:

Quote:
Copy the YouTube video name text and the name text only, not the entire link.

Example:

Copy the bold text only:

http://www.youtube..com/watch?v=odWuWdlYZFA

Paste that text in your message:

odWuWdlYZFA

Highlight the text and then click the YouTube icon in the message editor tool bar (I am looking for a better YouTube image):
Result:
IMPORTANT NOTICE: No media files are hosted on these forums. By clicking the link below you agree to view content from an external website. We can not be held responsible for the suitability or legality of this material. Posting of objectionable material in text, attachments or embedded links is grounds for immediate suspension.
I AGREE, PLAY EMBEDDED VIDEO

Keep trying!

Good info Michael. Put this thread somewhere we can find it easily and refer to it. I'm sure many will asking this in the days to come.

Great advice! I was wondering how to do it so that we can have the pictures inserted into stories like before. Thanks Michael.

I put this as a sticky in the ATC forum. I'm going to copy it over to the Hunting Reports forum, as well.

Well, I learned something this morning. I had posted quite a few pictures on various threads. This morning, I deleted all the files from my attachements section thinking I didn't need them anymore. Now all the threads where I had posted pictures don't have the pictures posted anymore. I had thought I didn't want those pictures taking up room, but now I realize I must leave them there for as long as I want them to show up on my threads. Which brings to mind a question... How much space are we allowed?

OK, here's a question...

How do I post that SAME PHOTO (that I've already uploaded previously) to a different thread?

It doesn't show up on the little pull down menu of the paper clip, but when I go to the attachments section under User CP, it's listed. I just don't know how to use it again. Anyone know?

Once we download a pic it shows a usage bar. When that gets full, do we have to start deleting pics? If so, will that delete the pics from whatever post it belongs to?

I guess what I'm saying is under user cp you can go to Miscellaneous and click attachments. From there it show what you have loaded and shows a usage bar. I'm guessing once that full you need to start deleting. But, if you delete them will that also go delete them from the original post.

Snakelover,

I have not figured out how to insert the actual photo again, but you can insert a link to it. Go into your attachments in the control panel. Click on the image you are interested in, and it will open in a new window. Copy the URL. Click on the insert image button in the massage window and paste the url into the link.

If it has anything burnt orange or any insignia from that other university, then it won't accept it. You'll need to change your picture.

Either that, or it has to be less than 19.5k, 165x165 pixels.

I changed the attachment setting to allow duplicate images to be posted. However, use it sparingly!!! I was a big fan of that option to limit it until I realized that you can't reuse an already uploaded image. That actually makes it potentially worse than before. Ideally, I could limit attachments to a single image, and then you could refer to it or link to it at any time, but unfortunately that's not the case. Hopefully they'll resolve that issue with a future release.

Now I'm going to try to reference a previously uploaded attachment manually by using the same syntax, but listing the ID number of the previously uploaded attachment...

Attachment 373

Hmmm... mixed results. I mean, you can click on it and see the previously uploaded picture of Ronnie's grandson, but it doesn't automatically appear in the post.

It seems like there would be a way to make those images appear again.

Burntorange Bowhunter, I SEE your profile pic. It's in your profile. Not to be confused with an avatar, which would be below your name in your posts if you had uploaded one.

On the old site, we used the words "profile pic" and "avatar" to mean the same thing. But here they mean completely different things. I suspect that what you're really trying to do is upload an avatar, not a profile picture. Right above where you click "Edit Profile Picture" in the User CP section is a place to click "Edit Avatar." As long as the avatar file is not more than 19.5kb or 165x165 pixels, it should load up for you. But you have to load it as an avatar, not a profile picture. Make sense?

Now I'm going to try to reference a previously uploaded attachment manually by using the same syntax, but listing the ID number of the previously uploaded attachment...

Attachment 373

Hmmm... mixed results. I mean, you can click on it and see the previously uploaded picture of Ronnie's grandson, but it doesn't automatically appear in the post.

It seems like there would be a way to make those images appear again.
The only way I see it can work is, if you want to use a picture that you've previously uploaded, you have to go to the user CP, click on the one you want to use, right click, properties and find ut the attachment number. then go back to your post where you want to put it and use the folowing code .

Hope this makes sense. Basically you just put the attachment number in between the bracketed codes.
