So low level flying, at low speeds, is the most dangerous scenario (in my opinion) you can be in when in a helicopter. If you have decent forward air speed and enough altitude, you can execute a flawless autorotation (been there done that as crew, not Pilot). While the pilot got it down, and likely technically it can be classified as an autorotation, looks more like he attempted a run-on landing. Auto's generally have the nose so high up in the air you cant see the ground (when you come through 80-ish feet if i remember right). That said, he might not have had the rotor speed to execute a textbook auto and not drop like a rock. Either way, pilot didnt panic and everyone walked away. This is the exception rather than the rule. I flew with CareFlite and i've been in just about every civilian airframe (and a couple military)... that includes the Robinsons... I likely would not get back in unless I needed to. Loose an engine at 1,000 ft or so with plenty of forward airspeed, you likely survive... low level, low speed... likely you don't unless you are in a short hover - but even that ride is gonna be crazy.
