    Family Relic

An old neighbor of my grandfather in FL passed and his wife contacted my mom. Seems this was my grandfather’s tool chest. At least existed as my great grandfather’s tool chest and possibly older. Well over 100 years old. Hand made. Has 3 custom drawers that are half the width of the box that slide back and forth so every part of the box is accessible without having to remove trays but they can be. A carpenters tool box. Hand made hardware. Filled with old handsaws and hand drills. Smells amazing, like one of my century olds first edition books. Love that smell.

Any recommendations on antique furniture restoration shops? Preferably between Huntsville and Spring. Thanks. Really want to keep the integrity of the antique so not wanting to repair myself.

Very cool. No way I’d let anyone touch it.

That looks well built and nicely done. Clean it up and leave it be.

A top trim piece is cracked cleanly at the hinges unfortunately. It will be a display item once it’s restored. Will probably hang many of the items on the wall around it. Maybe I should haul it to an episode of Antiques Roadshow haha.

Just leave it the way it is.

But might use tungsten or linseed oil to put moisture back in wood.

Not looking to do much other than repair it to working order. Will probably oil it down to protect the wood. Not looking to alter cosmetics much. Just want it fixed.

If it’s on display, does that matter? Be careful either way.

                Very cool piece of history!

                    Nice.
I think it looks good as is, but making that wood glow, while "keeping the integrity ", would be pretty cool I think.
On value, usually the worse it looks it the more they want

The metal is copper. You can see the blue oxidation residue on it. That must have been one heck of a good looking kit back in the day stained and polished. The trays are engineered to such minute tolerances that they glide back and forth but will not rock a mm.
