You can’t pick and choose law and order, either its law or disorder.

No reason to enforce anything I guess if you won’t enforce a gateway drug.

Your son’s and daughters will likely end up just like disorder would speculate.

Its Godless

APD Chief has pointed this out. And the CC is backing up a bit on its original position.

I live in the area of Austin and look at in wonder what type of city it would be if it weren't for the conservative value of the State Government.

I fear if Texas goes blue, Austin will look like Baltimore or Detroit.

You clearly donít understand how politics work. If the police chief wants to keep his job, heíll make sure his officers are not arresting people for said offenses. Sad, and I donít like it, but thatís the way it works.

It will be legal before too long...you could trip over the stuff in HS back in the 80's but had to hit Reynosa to get booze.

Big yawn here too...just watch live PD and all the releases. Crazy.

How is the legal ? Possession is still a federal crime ? How does a city Ordinance trump a federal or state law ?

Gonesouth, I commute to Austin everyday, and have been since ‘00. I understand the liberal, socialist (now DSA) regime that’s masked as a democrat occupying city hall. The CC has no authority in CCP to direct any department or municipality on which arrest to make. The resolution calls for the end of financial support for testing of weed.. How do you tell a beat cop that the gun they found in the car off a felon based on the odor of weed (probable cause) search is now a bad case because they won’t financially support it? Like most Austin CC descions they’ll comeback under the mask of darkness and amend it or give Chief money to have DPS test it.

Guys, come on. Let the reefer madness movie go. Let it go.
Couple things.

-Tell me about the last stoned driver that killed someone waiting for a stop sign to turn green.

-Anyone denying the legitimate medicinal benefits of marijuana is uninformed, ill-informed, or never seen the positive effects, of its use for many ailments. Up to and including terminal illnesses.

And, no, I do not partake but know plenty of normal, responsible, successful adults who do. In fact guys, Don’t look now? But I promise you somebody you know, and probably somebody you’re close to, is using marijuana.

I know! I know! - “not my friends/associates”.

You’re wrong.

Law enforcement has bigger things to worry about than a dime bag of weed.

People that worry about this can also occupy their time with stopping gambling in Texas. All that does is send your money to Louisiana and Nevada.

Of course there are Stories out there just like this. just like there are stories on the other end of the spectrum. I know many people who are worth several million dollars, of which they inherited zero dollars. Doctors, lawyers, businessman, etc.

My point is, that the stigma around marijuana, and marijuana users, is way off base at this time in the USA.

Two grams?? How much is two grams of weed? A joint? Two joints??

Personally if I pulled someone over and they had two joints I'd smash it into the ground (after a cursory search) and tell'em to don't let me catch them again.

When I retire I'ma gonna buy a bag of weed and sit on the back porch. Unless they legalize it then I'll sit on the front porch and holler for everyone to get off my lawn...

Thereís an enormous, enormous amount of money fighting against the legalization of marijuana. Do you know where this money is coming from? Big insurance, big Pharma, the ones with a true agenda to fight against the legalization of marijuana for medicinal benefits.

Make no mistake, gentlemen. Please educate yourselves. These companies would stand to lose billions in prescription profits, and service profits, by the legalization of marijuana. Tinfoil hat me if you like.

Again, as a reference, check out the political forum read through some of my posts, and see if my tinfoil hat **** is now coming true or not.

I think for the most part the line is drawn generationally. I know PW and FW are older gentlemen ( absolutely no offense. Respect both you guys much). It really seems to be where most of the disconnect is in conversations like this. Iím in my 30s and most people my age that I speak about this with (And I am as conservative as they come. I am a true constitutionalist to my core. Iím not a Republican, or Commie-Crat. I believe in small government. I believe in the tape amendment., Look it up,. I believe in the enumerated powers, and that is the only authority the federal government should have. Those laid out in the enumerated powers. Everything else should fall to the 10th amendment to the states. Including marijuana. If we would get back to our founders intended this country to actually run, everyone would be happy. The baby killers, and communist can go live in ****ing California, and they can do whatever they would like through their temperament rights at the state level. Iíll keep my happy *** here in Texas, and continue to hunt and fish serve God and my family.

The left pushed me right.

I guess I'm still libertarian but not going to waste my vote on that candidate.

Personally, I dont give a rip either way.
What's really comical is the " I know millionaires who smoke weed" or the " weed is gods answer to all health problems jokes.
Weed smoking millionaires are the exception to the rule not the standard.
There are zero studies that show definitively that weed has health benefits. I'm 100% sure it does help some people I'm also 100% positive it runs more people than it helps.
When the smoker starts probably has more to do with it than anything.
If your a fully developed adult I'm sure it does not have the same negative results it does with a juvenile

I'll say this, the Austin City Council is a freaking joke. As far as their feel good vote goes, it means nothing, they can't "vote" to not enforce State law. Can they use political pressure to dictate how APD does business, maybe, maybe not.

The legalization push legitimately started when Gov. Abbott signed the "hemp legislation" several months ago. I won't go into specifics, but that single handedly created significant legal hurdles to enforcing Possession of Marijuana laws. My department no longer makes routine POM arrests due to the new legislation.

As far as what's been quoted above, I take exception to a couple things...Ö The "medical marijuana" argument is mostly BS in my opinion. Most experts say that the beneficial aspects of MJ can be delivered in ways other than smoking, which obviously introduces the THC "high" that most pot-heads are after. I'm not denying in any way that MJ/Hemp may have some legit medical uses, but medical MJ in and of itself was an is overwhelmingly just a BS way for MJ users to legally get it.

Secondly, making a statement that makes it seem as though someone under the influence of MJ while driving a car is harmless is irresponsible and simply not true. Impaired drivers, regardless of what drug they are on, are extremely dangerous when they get behind the wheel. I've seen many, many stoned idiots operating vehicles where its a miracle they hadn't killed anyone before being stopped by LE.

I'll say this, I honestly don't care if a responsible adult wants to smoke a joint here and there, especially in the confines of their private lives. I also believe that alcohol is just as devastating and likely more so to the average American. Alcohol causes a bunch of problems in a lot of people's lives, there is no denying that. I do think its ironic in several ways that alcohol is legal and MJ is not.

No facts to support your claim of millionaires. That's the thing, you have no clue how many smoke occasionally in their own home. In states where it's legal it isn't allowed in public.
