Love them Loudenboomer guns.
My favorite is my custom wildcat .338 WSM with Barnes bullets. My 2 bullet choices are 210 and 185 grain TTSX-BT @ 3050 and 3240 FPS. Very similar to Lazzaroni Galaxy loads. So fun to shoot and under .5 moa @ 100yds.

Great round. Much more user friendly than the .460 Weatherby (standard load). I prefer the old boring .404 parent round; but perhaps just due to nostalgia. :-)

I helped a friend work up loads for a .505 Gibbs last year and I can tell you that wasn't much fun. Finally resorted to shooting off sticks as from the bench it was pretty rough.

I have started to see more of you PHs going to synthetic stocked rifles after years of scoffing at the Americans and their "ugly rifles". Be safe and happy hunting!

.375 H&H is largest we have and I wish I had more for Cape Buffalo. He ate that 300 grain lead like vitamins.

I'm getting too old to handle the recoil so I don't currently have any Big Bore rifles, unless you count a couple of .45-70s. I got rid of my factory special run Ruger M77 in .458 Win Mag. I do still have a couple of Medium bores, a .338 Win Mag and a .375H&H.

Interesting caliber, never heard of it before, heard of many of the old big game calibers, from many years ago, then the common big game calibers, but not the 460 G&A. Looks like it should be a stout caliber. The only big game calibers I have ever had any experience with are the 375 H&H typically, then the 458 Win. Mag and the 460 Weatherby. I like that rifle of yours, everything I have see and heard is Brunos are great rifles.

It would be nice to go hunting over there some day, don't think I will ever have the time or money to do that, but have wanted to for a long time.

You should have been shooting copper. Lead is for fishing weights and scofflaw duck hunters.

My big bore stable consists of a single shot cva 45-70 and a home brewed 458 SoCom AR. I love those guns it's nice not needing a spotting scope at 100 yds.

It seems folk are talking up their mid bores. It has to be .40 or larger to be a “Big Bore”

my gunsmith buddy has a rifle that he acquired that is marked .450 velociraptor. he sent me a picture of the chamber cast and it makes a .338 lapua look pretty small. looks to be some sort of .505 Gibbs wildcat. I wanna shoot it if he can ever get any rounds loaded!

230 grs of H-5010 behind a 750gr Amax.
Ballistic Coefficient is 1.05

Does this imply the 340 Wby Mag rests in the mid bore column?

Yes .338 is smaller than .400

Even the 375 H&H is considered a "middle" bore

The 45–70 is the quintessential big bore… What else would it be?

The terms “big bore and middle bore” are usually spoken from an African hunter’s perspective. I believe like here in the states there are regulations of what calibers can be used on certain game. Like it or not a .338 anything is considered a middle bore.

I have a 375 H&H and have had 378 Wby Mag both midbores.
I have a couple of 416 Rigbys and have had 416 WBY Mag wihich are considered big bores.
My 338 Lapua is a measly mid bore also.

In case anyone doesn't know, here is the historical breakdown:

"I]Small-bore refers to calibers with a diameter of .32 inches or smaller. The medium-bore refers to calibers with a diameter between .33 inches up to .39 inches and large-bore refers to calibers with a diameter of .40 inches or larger. Miniature bore historically referred to calibers under .22.[/I]"

Have had a few over the years. 375 Ruger, 375 H&H, 378 Wby, 45-70, 458 Lott, and 460 Wby. With the big kickers, the rifle itself makes a huge impact on shootability. I really like the way the Mark V shoots, but same as well with the Ruger Hawkeye.

I don’t own any big boomers anymore. Did have a Savage at one time in .458 win mag. That thing was pure poison on hogs.

Biggest thing I have now is .338 win mag , and a .348 Winchester.

My only one is a .444 Marlin levergun. It’s nothin fancy but I love shootin pigs with it. I need to order some cooler ammo, I’ve just been shooting the readily available 240gr Core Lokts.

I have a couple CZ 550s one in 416 Rigby the other in 460 Weatherby. I also have a Ruger No1 in 450-400 and a double rifle in 500 Nitro express. I have several 45-70s and a 450 Marlin but to me when I think big bore they do not really come to my mind. I have a pile of Med bore rifles that I shoot more than the true big bores. I am a huge fan of my 375 H&Hs

I think you’ll like it. I have a lefty Alaskan model from back when they were difficult to find, and it shoots like a big 30-06. Doesn’t even feel like a huge jump up in recoil, just more of the same.

Does a 450 Bushmaster count here
I know it is a Black rifle and does not have the romance of a 300H&H.
BUT.
It does launch a 300gr slug at SS speeds (1950fps)
5.56 next to it for comparison.

Default Big Bore Rifles

It appears some folks don’t understand the definition of bore.

I have a couple.

Marlin 1894 41 mag (barely makes the cut )

Henry 41 mag carbine octagon barrel:

458 Socom:

450 Marlin TC Encore

Marlin 1895 XLR in 450 Marlin (no pics )
