i have long thought the 45-70 was the king of lever actions and always will be,,,, i know they make some modern versions that can handle a lot more( 30-06, 270, 308 for a few),,,, but nothing i have ever shot has impressed me more than a 45-70 when it hits the target,,,,

So what is the one on the right? I have no idea, looks like a old H&R single shot, but with a lever on the bottom, which I have no idea why.

Hereís some not so great pics of my Marlin 30AW 30-30. Picked it up at an estate sale, JM stamped made in 90í. I pulled the scope off so I need a rear sight put on it. I cannot find a butt plate that will fit it. Have ordered 3 online only to find they are too big. Guess itís off to a gun smith to see if they can help.

The butplates are supposed to be too big that way you can fit them to your rifle.

Buttplate or recoil pad? Buttplates are made big to grind down most recoil pads are made to be ground down. There are some prefit and slip over pads but they are gonna be just a rough fit.

Butt plate. So it appears at some point in my rifles life its owner cut down the stock, assuming they wanted to shorten the LOP. The butt pad I still have doesnít really fit the contour of the butt so I donít think grinding it down will help.

Looking at your picture it appears to have been cut down. If you need the extra length you could add a recoil pad a cheaper route may be to check Marlin Owners forum or Gunbroker looking for a used stock the Glenfield rifles and the Marlins are the same except for the type of wood used Glenfields usually have Birch and the Marlins have Black Walnut just make sure to look for a pistol grip stock

Yeah Iíve considered getting a new stock, but I might just keep it short so my son can shoot easier, only if I can put a plate or pad on it though. I shot it for the first time today, shoots good. Got it sighted in and hoping to drop the hammer on a doe this weekend.

Hereís my Winchester 94AE 30-30.

My deer lease is MLD 3 so we have to shoot a lot of doe each year. Iím a Bowhunter at heart but the doe werenít cooperating this year like years past so, I thought it would be cool to bring out the ole open sight 30-30.
Iíve killed deer with it when I had the scope on it but I took off the scope this summer.

This is my first deer with it being open sights. It was a super cool hunt and I was all kinds of excited.

Shot her yesterday at 37 yards. No feeder just ran my tailgate feeder in a big opening beside a draw in my area.

I took a better picture of my Marlin 30AW. Has the Redfield 3x9 scope that was on it when I bought it, which I imagine is about as old as the rifle but still works great!
