Kinda weird rainfall patter at our place this year, who knows whatís going to happen. It was so dry this spring I didnít attempt spring dove food plots.

We cleared about 30 acres of cedar over the last year, which has been great, just need to get more rain to get vegetation up and running.

Got around to checking cameras and we have a couple of bucks that really blew up since last year. Getting rid of our donkeys and year-round protein has proven to be effective. That, and having one of the only two ponds that never dried up for a couple of miles helped. Should be a fun season.

Pulled some pics yesterday. The few showers we had come through earlier this week have helped the pasture conditions.

Iím thinking this buck with the split on his left brow tine may be my target buck. I think heís at least 6, I think I have pics of him the last three years:

Some good looking bucks. Seems like it could be a good year. Now we just need some more rain and some cooler weather.

Sorry, it’s not an age progression, just shots from different angles/distances from the last few weeks put together. I like to have a compilation of shots put together so I can remember what they look like from different angles, so I’m not searching through hundreds of photos in the blind trying to identify bucks.

Hereís a couple age progressions of two bucks on our place. The wide 10 broke off both his brow tines last year, he might be a shooter this year.

Awesome! Thank you 686. Pretty much everybody loves a good age progression. I hunt sometimes in Lampasas county and I enjoy seeing pics like yours.

How old do you think the wide 10 is this year? The first pic he must have been at least 3 so at least 5 this year?

Yeah he's at least 5, probably more like 6 or 7. A 3 year old 10pt that wide would be pretty out of the ordinary for our place, we just started feeding and making improvements mid-2015. I need to see him live. He was definitely mature last year, looking forward to seeing him this year, hopefully he takes it easy on the fighting. We had a bunch of bucks with busted up racks last year. Like maybe their bodies had bulked up on protein and food plots and the antlers hadn't caught up yet and couldn't hold up to the fights.

That wide 10 has an awesome frame. I'd fling an arrow at him if the opportunity presented itself for sure.

I'm hunting, but I'm pessimistic on the bird numbers. Seems like it was too dry at the wrong times this year, haven't been seeing a ton of birds and I didn't have any sunflowers come up.

Gonna be down to our place Saturday to try and shoot a few birds hopefully and pull cards. Last year we had an alright dove shoot but nothing like the 2 or 3 years prior.

Was pleasantly surprised Saturday morning and had my limit before 8. And my lab did awesome for it being his very first hunt and first time with fresh birds. Only had to pick up one bird and that's when I shot a triple. Birds were pretty much gone yesterday mornin. Killed the only 3 that came by me. ... Also ended up having a buck show up that had disappeared all last year and just knew the neighbors had got him. He has added some bone for sure! Hopefully he stays around and doesn't disappear again.

We're between 580 and 190. So if its him he would have done a little traveling but you never know I guess. If I'm thinking right 2200 is off of 281 right?

Yea, that'd be quite a bit of ground to cover for sure so, I would have to say they've gotta be different deer. But, it's always good to know that caliber of deer is all throughout the area.

I've hunted this same lease my whole life. This is our 31st year on it. The quality of deer is 1,000 times better than what it used to be. I know the ar law made a big difference in the area as a whole. Yes it's got its downsides on some deer but as a whole I believe it made a huge difference. I got everyone on board with trying to manage our place better the past 10 years or so and it has helped with the size of our bucks we are taking just because they are actually getting to grow! Who would have thunk it? Haha ..And I plan on starting to feed cotton seed and or protein this year to try and help out some more. I enjoy watching the bucks grow over the years about as much as hunting them now.

Not enough at our place off of 2600. From what I understand it was really sporadic according to my dad.

Went to the ranch to get some finishing touches done before bow season starts. I don't know how it's possible but, our pond levels are the lowest I've ever seen them. It rained hard Saturday evening for about 10 minutes but, that was it. I guess we have missed all of the storms over that past few weeks. Other than that, we have a couple of decent bucks regularly hitting the protein feeders. The corn feeders only have smaller bucks frequenting them. There are rubs and scrapes everywhere though already and some of the bigger bucks have been out of velvet for a couple of weeks while the smaller bucks are still in velvet. Anyone else think it might be an early rut?

Sweet buck...

I'm just north of y'all near Bee House. We had a TON of deer on camera 2 weeks ago, some last weekend... And very very very few this weekend. We have a set up in oak thickets and sounds like rain in there from acorns falling. I'm tempted to turn feeders way down for a bit

We saw only a hand few all weekend and must were out of bow range.
