Fortunate enough to kill this buck on COE land around Wright-Patman Monday.
I never see much action hunting the traditional daylight/dark times when the moon is up big all night. So I slept in a bit and left the house about 12:30 and drove to the lake.
I went in to a spot I'd only e-scouted and had the intention to just check the spot out but took my gear just in case. The wind was blowing around real funky so I went in from a different direction than planned and eased around this drainage and found pretty good sign so I climbed a tree.
I wasn't settled in the tree 30 minutes when I heard footsteps behind me from the east. He walked to within 5 yds of the tree ....smelled the ground and turned back to the north and walked right out where I had a 15 yard shot.
He's my first buck in several years on corps land and one of my best from corps land.
