I dislike crush washers. I had to cut the last one off of my gun. It crushed down to where the ID was smaller than the threads and I couldn't get it off.
Shim kits. Other methods don’t provide the level of alignment that shims do. Before I started shooting suppressed, where alignment is especially critical, I used some crush washers. They’re ‘probably’ fine BUT there’s always a chance that they crush slightly unevenly and throw off alignment slightly; and they CAN get deformed and stuck. Shims may take a few extra minutes to get right but they’re definitely the best method of timing your brake, other than having your GS do it when cutting the threads and shoulder.
