I'm also trying to make the duck hunting great....so this weekend I "planted" a bunch of sago pond weed tubers to try and get them established.

Put sand in a paper bag, put a couple tubers in, put more sand on top, staple bag and throw in a foot of water. Easy-peasy.

thats a really neat and cool idea, I may try that on my project place....can these water plants spread and become a problem? My newly dug pond could use some plant diversity and if I can kill a few ducks that would be awesome.

You can tell the difference on probably 75-80%. They do have a golden hue.

So i guess logistically you're going to have to quit culling bass for a year or two to let the LL bass grow?

Yes exactly. Probably will cull some larger fish within a certain length this year as I know they are all northern strain. I will try to give the LL two spawning cycles before culling any UNDERS.

We took out 700 bass (all by rod and reel) the last two years so we've got the population as low as it has been in a long while.

The sago will spread but not like wildfire... and they only grow in shallow water. Each plant is different though.

Steve I would cull like hell this year. My goal would be 800-1000

Are you talking about the bigger fish?

The other thing is we have a flock of Cormorants that do a hell of a job culling the bass. There are still 6-8 birds that I scare off every time I'm here. In the winter it can be over a hundred birds.

Yes sir. With Cormorants I would but that number in half. We so far havenít had a big issue with them. Have you looked at those timed automatic bang cannons?

Got a new mini pontoon for the guests to fish or cruise around with. Rigging up a trolling motor, battery, and solar charger for it.

Dove plots are looking good. We missed most of the rain last week so we are not waterlogged like some areas.

I sprayed round up in the corn and clethodim (grass selective herbicide) in the sunflower plot to knock the weeds and grasses back.

Well I can hardly believe the growth these Florida bass put since I stocked them 19 days ago. They have quadrupled in weight feeding in the brood pond full of shiner fry.

Seined and caught and unbelievable amount of shiner fry. Thousands upon thousands.

Only caught a few bass and they were a little smaller than than ones from the other day.....but still great progress.

Couldn't irrigate the peredoviks but they are still looking decent. Had 3/10ths rain yesterday so that might perk them up a little.

One thing I can't get over is how strong our crawfish population is. The crawfish pic is at the boat ramp after I moved the pontoon. A rage craw is money out here right now.

Draining the brood pond and getting the remaining bass out in the morning to plant some rice for ducks. I caught 11 of them tonight on a fly rod/hopper. They are getting big.

They actually aren't sliders....can't open them. They are fixed twin 3'x5' so they are essentially 6' x 5'.

I planted rice 2 weeks ago in the 1 acre duck pond (should have planted way earlier...75 day maturity). Now that it's up I'm putting a couple inches of water on it.
