Default Hardin County early rut as usual

The rut in southern Hardin County is usually the end of September to mi-October. Proof in the pic. Actually a backyard trailcam in near Lumberton.

This is normal. Usually a rut early October, then another aroun the first of November. Mixture of coastal genetics and East Texas genetics.

Breeding can happen at any time early or late. As of four days ago, I still have fawns with spots.

Same here. Have one fawn that is still covered and they aren't even starting to fade yet.

Nothing good happens at 2:00am. The doe was singing this song the next morning.

One, don't pick up the phone
You know he's only calling 'cause he's drunk and alone
Two, don't let him in
You'll have to kick him out again
Three, don't be his friend
You know you're gonna wake up in his bed in the morning
And if you're under him
You ain't getting over him
I've got new rules, I count 'em
I've got new rules, I count 'em

We have been hunting in the southern Big Thicket units since the 80's and the main rut period has been the end of September to mid October. That photo is not a one-time deal. It was taken north of Beaumont. A good portion of southern Hardin County follows the rut pattern of the Gulf Coast deer. Just 40 years of in the woods observation. Northern Hardin County may tend to have have normal timing of end of October into November.
