Default vehicle shortage

Was @ the local Toyota dealership today for warranty work on the Highlander. They had 16 new cars on the lot. They normally have about 100. Slim pickins! Good thing I'm not lookin for a new vehicle right now!

Yup dealerships wont sell anything less than sticker. Computer chip scarcity is driving all of this and yes, covid brought it on.

The dealer where I bought my truck in February had 70 or 80 new trucks . Now they have less then a dozen . Went to San Antonio last weekend and every lot from Victoria to San Antonio have jus a few trucks but lots of cars .

Drove by Fred Haas this weekend. They had significantly fewer cars on the lot than normal.

Totaled my wifeís car a few weeks ago and itís been a nightmare finding a replacement. Finally bit the bullet and just overpaid because it was the only way to get something we wanted.

My fil put his ram 2500 on Craigslist and had a buyer within 3 hours. My fil had been watching thr market and had his truck listed $7,000 higher than book price. Buyer paid it and didn't bat an eye.

I posted this on the thread about shortages. Kept getting emails from the local Ford dealer that I can upgrade from my 2019 F250 with a 6.3 gas engine to a 2021 F250 with a 7.2 and pay less per month. So I decided to go in and see what this was all about. Sure enough, they appraised my 2019 XLT with just over 34,000 miles at $40,000 on a trade in- the only problem is they don't have any and can't find any 2021 FX4 Super Duty XLT's anywhere. My wife called every dealership between Hughes Springs and Livingston and there are a few Lariats out there but nothing else that is a gas burner.

We been looking for a f250 used the dealership in marble falls will text me they took a trade in and within an hour it is sold. Doesn’t even give me time to get there and look at it. They can’t keep a used one on the lot.

One of my trucks was totaled back in August, and insurance cut me a check for it. I had a second truck to drive, so I wasnít in a big rush to get another one. I looked for 8 months or so for a replacement that was in my range and I found nothing. The used truck market was outrageous, and it was slim pickings for what I wanted (Silverado extended cab, 8í bed, 4x4)

I finally bought a 2001 King Ranch Quad cab that was in really good shape, with 92,000 miles on it, for $4500. Feel like I stole that truck.

Thought about taking my 2020 Chevy Silverado crew cab 4x4 in to see what the dealer would give on it. Really needing/wanting a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel 4x4 for some part time work that would require a bigger truck.

I work for Samsung and car manufacturers cut a ton of orders when covid hit. Now they are trying to ramp up but itís a slow process getting those parts back through the line and out.

Yep, and when the government incentivizes people to sit on their you know whats and collect a gov't check, its easy come easy go. Really strange times we are in, unemployment is allegedly high, jobs numbers are down, yet employers can't find people willing to work, everyone has been laid off due to covid so we are handing out money like fools, yet people are spending money on expensive toys/vehicles like crazy, people can't buy houses because they are sold for $150k over asking before they even hit the market, and on and on.
