Why do gas stations charge 5 to 10 cents more for using a card instead of cash? In years past it was a few stations here and there that did it, now it seems they are all doing it. And it's only regular unleaded. Not plus, premium or diesel. The crap is irritating

Credit cards charge a fee to get the gas stations their money..
Same reason gun stores and booths at gun shows charge you a fee for a credit card versus cash/check transaction.
I think what we are really seeing is the extra places discounting cash sales because the price of fuel is so high now and they are trying to attract you to their store. In the past when gas stations didn't have a different cost, you were most likely paying their credit card price for both and now you are seeing them advertise cash discounts at these current price levels. Basically they are trying to make it more attractive for you to come in and spend money at their store.Last edited by Smart; 11-16-2021, 01:27 PM.

When I had my beer store.
I used to charge $1.00 to use a credit card.
Because, the commercial credit card company I used, guaranteed that the
credit card was not stolen, or compromised..
Well, I got a really nasty letter from the Texas state Comptroller's office
to knock it off, or they would file charges against me..
They explained, that only city offices, and municipalities were allowed to
charge for a credit card use. So beats me..
