Well, trad guys will always tell you to look for a long, smooth tapered, fixed blade, cut on contact broadhead (no trocar tips). That style of head is more efficient at penetrating the hide, and more likely to give you two holes with our less efficient bows. After those criteria, it all starts to fall into personal preferences. My preferences are:
      1. Easy to get sharp, and stays sharp in the quiver
      2. No weak points in the design, preferably machined from one solid chunk of steel.
      3. As much cutting width as my setup can easily drive through the chest cavity.
      4. Don't require a bank loan to buy
      5. can be bought in a weight that tunes perfectly to my bow/arrow.

VPA 3 blade, 1 1/4" cut diameter heads match all these criteria for me, and don't cost as much as some of the super steel broadheads on the market. So they're in my quiver.

I have used several different heads through the years, since 1968, and have always come back to Zwickey.
Zwickeys have always stayed consistant in metal and weights. The only draw back is they do not come pre sharpened. you will need to learn how to sharpen them but once you get that down a broadhead will last years, or until you lose the arrow.

I've used many different broadheads over the years and have come to the conclusion that the best broad is one that is razor sharp and placed in the boiler room. I'm currently shooting 205 grain Simmons Safari.

                            Better think file . . .
                            Or so I've heard.

Yes to sharpen a Zwickey you need a file before a stone.....I use a 10" mill ******* file.....bigger is better on files.....

I need to film sharpening a Zwickey so you see how easy it is once you know what to do....

X2 a good mill file will get it sharp. Add some butcher steel and strop it will get scary sharp. Once you learn the technique it's fairly easy to get a good edge on anything. My wife's pampered chef spatula will shave hair lol.
