The Ranch
As previously posted, http://discussions.texasbowhunter.co...d.php?t=687206 my brother and I purchased a ranch two weeks ago . I took the family down to visit it for the first time last Saturday and Easter Sunday. What a phenomenal weekend!! My wife and kids just loved it! We spent the entire time exploring and learning our way around and searching for sheds. The weather was perfect and we saw tons of game. Deer were everywhere and the turkey were in full strut. We knocked around Cotulla on Sunday morning before heading back out. Here are some pics from the weekend. Found a few sheds and one good one. (and if you guys get sick of my excitement, I understand!)

A buddy and I went down to the ranch for a quick Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Weather was great! We found a few sheds and saw a ton of deer. Only one buck with full antlers, the majority of the deer we saw were already starting to grow back. That country is full of dove right now, lots of quail and the turkey are still in full strut. As I was walking around looking for sheds, I came back to the truck and not sure how I saw this but I found an amazing point right int he middle of the road on Saturday evening. I am told it is a Lerma Point. I don't know but thought it was cool whatever it was! Here are some other pics from the weekend.

congrats on a beautiful place - I did the same some years back - bought 600 acres and lived there for 5 years.
What I learned (for what it is worth) is the it is the process and not the end result. Improving a piece of property to its highest potential is nothing but a fun and great journey. I wanted it all done "today" but figured out there was no reason to rush - the journey is the blessing - Please keep us updated |

We cleared for the new barn area and have been remodeling the ranch manager's house. They are painting the exterior of it today and tomorrow and short of some punch list items, we are about done.
Boy it was Africa hot down there, plus the rain the previous week has the gnats and skeeters out!! We spent the day Friday and Saturday riding around doing some more exploring. So fun to find areas I hadn't seen or noticed before! We saw lots of deer at all times of the day. Couple groups of bucks and a few had some beer can size mass at their bases. Kind of exciting! All of the protein feeders were empty or close to it. The deer have hammered 6.5 tons of protein in about 3 weeks. Its time for a fill up! New ranch manager starts next week and we are both excited. Lots of good stuff to do! You know the tough thing to do is name the areas and blinds? I don't want to have just numbers or letters. Trying to find names that I can associate with the location. Not a bad problem to have! Here are a few pics. Cleared Barn area, buck growing out, brown snake under one of my watering stations. |
