    Cabin build question

Cabin/home construction question for the green screen...

If I plan to install shiplap on interior walls do I need to install drywall first or can I just install the shiplap directly to the studs? The structure is fully wrapped on exterior with tyvek and Hardi board panel siding. Walls are insulated with open cell spray foam to 3”. Thanks in advance for the input.

True shiplap overlaps each board. If so, you are good. If there is even a 1/32 gap the insulation will show thru.

If it laps you’re fine. Some people put up plastic first.

If the exterior is wrapped in tyvek don’t put plastic on the interior. You already have a vapor barrier and adding a second one on the interior could trap moisture between the two.

Even with the exterior tyvek wrap, I'd still put something behind the boards both for an extra layer of insulation and bug proofing...

I put black felt paper under my shiplap so the insulation wouldn't show through.

There is a difference, in the shape, of shiplap vs. nicklegap, but neither one should require any kind of cover to hide the insulation.

                            Shiplap.

My WHOLE house is done in nicklegap, and every bit of it is nailed straight to the studs.
