Are they good bows?
Looking at getting another recurve and want a good quality bow but don’t know if a true custom would be advantageous to me at this skill level. What is the general consensus of these bows? |

Two of my sons have given up the compounds and are shooting bear grizzlies. I am working on making a bear Montana longbow my primary bow. I would say they are pretty darn good... especially for the money

I don't care for Bear bows because of the really high wrist. However they have a huge following and you can find them very reasonable used. So if you decide it isn't for you it will sell.
And I agree a true custom bow is something that is hard to know what to get until you know what works for you. Length, grip type and size, etc. But honestly most production bows shoot better than most hunting archers do. Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk |

I wonder how many animals have fallen to a Bear Grizzly... They're inexpensive enough to try.

Had a guy on another forum call Martin bows "plywood bows".
Curious because although they are laminated they aren't thin wood sections. And their performance is known to be superior to other similar bows like the Bear line up. I happened onto mine and although it wasn't something I "wanted" opportunity and price was decision maker for me. However after getting it out, putting quite a few arrows down range and getting to know it I like it. However limbsavers are a must. At 10gpp it has a twang to it but the limbsavers toned it way down. Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk |

I’ve had a Grizzly for 15 years or so. Needless to say I like mine.
Note* I’m far from an expert with trad gear. |

Went ahead and ordered the Grizzly in 55#.
We will see how she shoots when she gets here. From what i've been reading I'll have to upgrade the string. Any recommendations for a Dacron String? |

Regardless, www.hcbstrings.com is the best choice for strings. Daniel makes a great string, quiet and long lasting. Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk Last edited by DRT; 10-27-2021 at 12:19 PM. |

Agree with what you said. The Grizzly is the 30-30 or 870 of the over the counter trad archery world. I got an early 70’s model and it’s a sweetheart of a bow. You should be happy with one, always use it as a backup if you upgrade. |

Unless I’m unpleasantly surprised at when my bear gets here....it may be an 870 but it’s a wing master. They are good looking bows....a lot nicer looking than what I’ve seen some other lower end recurves look.
But as long as I can shoot it, that’s what matters |

I take it as a bow that fills the biggest market niche in a way that is not only functional but reliable and stands the test of time. Good looking is in the eye of the beholder. And a deer doesn't care how good the bow looks as the arrow slips between it's ribs. What is important is how it shoots for you. Because if it doesn't, being pretty or expensive doesn't mean squat. To my eye, my Remington 870 20 gauge Upland Special is a beautiful shotgun. To my all day quail hunting feet, knees and back, my Remington 870 20 gauge Upland Special is a beautiful shotgun. In my book comparing a Remington Model 870 and The Bear Grizzly is a compliment to both. Good luck with it. ![]() |

Got the grizzly in this afternoon.
Didn't have time to mess with it until i got home around 8, but i strung it, threw a nock on it and fired a few test arrows in the backyard. Although I couldn't see where I was hitting, I hit the target all 6 times from around 12 yards. went i went to pull the arrows the groups were surprisingly good considering it was dark. Bow is very light compared to my Satori and it felt good in the hand. shooting a 10 gpp arrow, it was a tad noisy but this is a bow that just has a quiver on it....no limbsavers, calf hair on the back of the limbs or poofs/cat whiskers. Initial thought is I like it. I also can immediately see why ya'll compared it to an 870. Its an attractive bow but not insanely beautiful, functional but not fancy. I've only held two bows prior, my Satori and a Sage Sammick and it feels alot better than the sage and I dare say it feels better in my hand than the Satori. Will get some more shooting in on Thursday |

Yep. I killed a lot of dove and ducks with an 870SPS. That gun had so many 5 stand rounds and boxes of clay birds thrown in front of it. Dang near ejected the shell on it's own when I shot it.
You'll enjoy the bow. Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk |

Memory doesn't function so good.....
Seems like I paid maybe $60 for a Grizzly in 1966. It treated me very well until I traded it for the first Jennings compound which proved to be a dumb move on my part. Grizzly = a great bow. |

I thought I was gonna have to wait and get used to it a bit before I hunted with it. The bow isn’t as refined and it’s a bit “rougher “ to shoot as it’s a heavier draw and shorter AMO but as far as accuracy is concerned i can shoot it better than the Satori. Arrows go right where I want them to. Now I’m gonna get new limbs for the satori and give it one more go to get it to shoot good bit of not I’ll send it down the road. Hopefully I’ll stick a mature buck with it tonite! |

This guy was coming in nice and easy and was gonna end up 13-14 yards from my set and all of a sudden he caught a whiff of something he did not like, jerked his head up and ran off grunting. I could hear him grunting for over 100 yards.
Trad hunting is on a whole other level. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I bought a Grizzly 55lb this summer to try to use on an elk hunt this past September. I really wanted to like the bow but it really doesn't feel great. I got 400 spine arrows to shoot 150 gr broadheads at the recommendation of 3 Rivers Archery. The bow felt clunky to shoot with that setup. I'm debating whether to sell it or try to tune it better and keep it. Any tips? Did I go with too heavy of arrows and broadheads?
